LARK, John Henry
COMO – John Henry Lark, 84, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at his residence.
Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ruffin Grove M.B. Church in Como. Rev. Timothy Smith will officiate. Visitation is today 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday noon – 1 p.m. at Ruffin Grove M.B. Church. Burial will be in Cistern Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Lark, born April 2, 1922, to the late George Lark and the late Liza Lindsey, was a retired construction worker and a member of Ruffin Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Ethel Mae Lark of Como; three daughters, Earnestine Augustus of Chicago, Rubystine Leverson and Alma Marie Hunt of Como; one brother, C.W. Lark of Como; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
LARSON, Julia Ellen Barnett
BATESVILLE – Julia Ellen Barnett Larson, 91, died Friday, January 12, 2007.
Memorial services were Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Larson, born Feb. 27, 1915, in Bridgeport, Ill., to the late Calvin Otis and Mary Elizabeth Nuckolls Barnett, was a member of First United Methodist Church. Before moving to Batesville she resided in Mountain Brook, Ala. She was active in Girls Scouts of America and PTA, Mountain Brook Garden Club, Co-founder of Veuture and an active member of Alabama Craftsman Guild. She was an accomplished potter and world traveler. She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. and a graduate from the University of Illinois in 1935.
She was a member of PEO Sisterhood and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Upon graduation she taught physical education in St. Louis, Mo. and at Sterrett School for Girls in Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Charles James Larson and son-in-law, Tom LaBorde.
Survivors include: three daughters, Lucie L. LaBorde of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lisa L. Hoyt of Wilson, Wyo. and husband Clay Hoyt, Loree L. Tucker of Batesville and husband Asa Tucker and five grandchildren, Brandon LaBorde, Lindsay LaBorde, Joel Tucker, Jared Tucker and Amanda Hoyt.
LEDBETTER, Clester F. "Bill"
OXFORD – Clester F. "Bill" Ledbetter, 80, died Wednesday, February, 14, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was the brother of Lucille Hastings and Jamie Ledbetter, both of Batesville.
Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home. Waller Funeral Home has charge.
Ledbetter served in the Navy during WWII and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eupora. He was also a retired farmer.
Survivors along with his sister and brother include: his wife, Betty Wiseman of Oxford; two step-daughters, Rose Hughes of Oxford and Cindy Wiseman of New York, N.Y. ; one son, James C. Ledbetter of Starkville; two step-sons, Paul Laurens Wiseman of Dallas, Texas and Keith Gore Wiseman of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Maxine White of Wynn, Ark. and Marie Muse of Jackson; one grandson; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

LEGGE, Henry James "Jim" Sr.
SENATOBIA – Henry James "Jim" Legge Sr., 74, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto in Southaven. He was the father of Jeff Legge of Batesville.
Graveside services are today at 11 a.m. at Hebron Cemetery near Sardis. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge.
Survivors along with his son include: his wife, Mary Legge of Senatobia; two daughters, Rebecca Holden of Coldwater and Patricia Jamison of Senatobia; two sons, Henry James "Jim" Legge Jr. of Grenada and John Legge of Senatobia; four sisters, Frances Moore and Mary Ellen Johnson, both of Batesville and Margaret Askew of Memphis and Jean Crowell of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Ray Legge of Sardis; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
LELAND, Audrey Henderson
BATESVILLE – Audrey Henderson Leland, 87, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are Sunday at 1 p.m. at New Hope M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope M.B. Church. Visitation will be Saturday at 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Sunday noon – 1 p.m. at New Hope M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Leland, born July 31, 1919, to the late Walter Henderson and the late Addie Peak Henderson, was a retired cook and a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
Survivors include: four daughters, Lillie Hoskins of Batesville, Linda Leland, Addie Leland and Doris Leland, all of Detroit, Mich.; one step-daughter, Loretta Rudd of Batesville; two sons, Gene Leland of Wauwatosa, Wis. and Calvin Leland of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Delphia Hardy of Batesville, Eula B. Booker and Mildred Patton, both of Memphis; one brother, J.D. Henderson of Batesville; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
LIGHTSEY, Barbara Dianne White
BATESVILLE – Barbara Dianne White Lightsey, 59, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jon Burnham will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation is today 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Lightsey, born April 19, 1947, to the late Howard White and the late Maxine Best White, was a deputy clerk in Charleston. She was a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church, member of the Joyful Jammers and a member of Team Lynard for Lynn Hardy Charitable Organization.
She was preceded in death along with her parents, by her father-in-law, Bufkin Lightsey and her sister, Brenda White.
Survivors include: her husband, Dennis Lightsey of Batesville; her mother-in-law, Marjorie Lightsey of Batesville; three sons, Tayne Tubberville of Charleston, Shayne Spence of Hernando and Paxton Spence of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Jana Brock of Batesville; one sister, Deborah Rainey of Charleston and two grandchildren, Hunter Brock of Batesville and Hannah Rayne Spence of Hernando.

LIGON, Catherine Smith
BATESVILLE – Catherine Smith Ligon, 88, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis.
Services are Saturday at 3 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Greg Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Ligon, born May 10, 1918, in Carrolton, to the late James F. and Susie S. Monk Smith, was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband W.I. "Bill" Ligon.
Survivors include: two daughters, Billie McCurdy and Bettie Connors of Memphis; one sister, Odelle Adkins of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

LIPE, James Ray
POPE – James Ray Lipe, 85, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at his residence.
Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Batesville Church of Christ. Michael Bates, Robert Rawson, Tommy Mahan and Rev. Jimmy Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pope. Visitation is today 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Lipe, born Dec. 1, 1921, to the late Thomas Jesse and Hattie Casey Pratt Lipe, grew up in the Pope-Chapel Hill community and attended school in Pope and Crowder. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and France. He was founder and owner of James R. Lipe Water Well and Lipe L.P. Gas Company in Pope and was a partner and vice-president of Batesville Concrete Products. A charter member of the Batesville Church of Christ, he served for decades as song leader and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Rotary Club, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow for his work in the Polio-Plus program.
After retirement, he kept busy traveling in his motor home, as a hobby gardener, and as a barbeque chef. He entered BBQ competitions across the south bringing home first place trophies in many categories. He loved doing benefit barbeques for Children’s homes, civic clubs, colleges and anyone in need.
Ray Lipe was known far and wide for his ready laugh, good humor and generous heart.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Tally Lipe and one sister, Mary Elizabeth "Maye" Lipe Smith.
Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Floy Belle Newman Lipe of Pope; two sons, David Larrimore "Larry" Lipe and wife Rebecca and Casey Ray Lipe and his wife Amy, both of Batesville and one daughter, Molly Lipe Dawidow and husband Michal of Sopot, Poland; six grandchildren, Lacey Lipe Moore and her husband, Jon of Little Rock, Ark. and David Liles Lipe of Broomfield, Colo., Annabelle Dawidow of Oxford and Michael Ray Lipe Dawidow of Sopot Poland, Erika Casey Lipe of Batesville and Jesse Ray Lipe of Denver, Colo.; one great-granddaughter, Reaghan Leigh Griffin Moore of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Ada Lipe Reynolds of Jackson and two brothers, Thomas B. Lipe of Arcadia, Fla. and Thomas Jesse "T.J." Lipe Jr. of Grenada; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Baby" Newman Taylor of Pope; and his two caregivers, George Walls and Kaye Williams and a dedicated housekeeper and friend, Laurarine Winfield.
LOCKE, Amanda Lucille
BATESVILLE- Amanda Lucille Locke, 105, died Thursday, March 15, 2007.
Graveside services were Monday at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Cemetery. Memorial services were at Faith Christian Church in Memphis with burial at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Water Valley. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Locke, born Nov. 22, 1901, was a member of the Eastern Star. She retired from Singer Sewing Machine Company and worked for many years at Goldsmith’s in the fabric department. She was a member of McLemore Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Locke, two daughters, Nell Locke and Joe Locke Camp; two sisters, Tot Cavitt and Blanch Dills and two brothers, Homer Thorne and Buddy Thorne.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jimmy Steward, and grandchildren, Dorna Jane Stewart, Alison Robinett, Alan Camp; great-grandchildren, Stewart Scranton and Sarah Rivers.
LUSK, Lilly Elmira B.
ENID – Lilly Elmira Bridges Lusk, 69, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at her residence.
Services were Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Rev. Marty Evans officiated. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Lusk, born June 29, 1937, in Lambert, graduated from Northwest Mississippi Community College and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Oliver Mansel Lusk of Enid; two sons, Oliver "Ollie" Lusk Jr. of Poplar Grove, Ark. and James O. Lusk of Clinton; five brothers, Louis Bridges of Clinton, Leon Bridges of Ridgeland, C.A. "Sonny" Bridges of Southaven, Larry Bridges of Dolphin Island, Ala. and David Bridges of Lambert and five grandchildren.
LUSTER, Robert Lee
SARDIS – Robert Lee Luster, 57, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. He was a factory worker.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cherry Street M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Lark of Olive Branch; two sisters, Rosie Fletcher of Sardis and Lizzie Fletcher of Como; five brothers, Jimmy Fletcher, George Fletcher, Ellis Fletcher, Lonzie Fletcher and Grady Fletcher Jr., all of Sardis and one grandchild.
