FAULKNER, Brian Keith
BATESVILLE – Brian Keith Faulkner, 38, died Sunday, January 29, 2006, in Greenwood.
Services were held Wednesday, February 1, at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Martin Case and Reverend Russell Fletcher officiated, with burial in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Faulkner was born July 12, 1967, in Batesville. He graduated from South Panola High School in 1986 and received an associate of business administration degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College. He was employed with Bailey and Draper Law Firm and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Bolen Draper and his father, Roderick Vernon Draper of Batesville, two sisters, Grace Draper Toulou and Elizabeth Draper Guerrero, one niece and one nephew, all of Texas; five aunts, Carolyn Bolen Toliver, Margaret Bolen Darby, Helen Bolen Carlisle Stroupe, and Melissa Cannon Bolen, all of Batesville, and Linda Bolen Respess of Crowder.
Survivors also include his grandmother Ruby Jones Bolen, four uncles, Birl Kenneth Bolen, Jerry Darby and Jerry Stroupe of Batesville and Charles Davis Respess of Crowder and nine cousins.
His grandfather, Birl Maulton Bolen, his uncle, Michael Henderson Toliver, and his uncle Robert N. Carlisle, all of Batesville, preceded him in death.

FAULKNER, Velma Chrestman
BATESVILLE – Velma Chrestman Faulkner, 93, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.
Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Johnny Spencer officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Faulkner.
Faulkner, born Nov. 4, 1912, in Calhoun County to the late Will B. and Irene Foster Chrestman, was a retired clerk and a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Renee Lovelady McPhillips of Phoenix, Ariz. and Debra Lovelady Kaatz of Chicago and one sister Vadie Chrestman Hawkins of Batesville.
FENNEL, Don Larry
BATESVILLE – Don Larry Fennel, 64, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation today from 5 to 8 p.m. Rev. John Howell Jr. and Robert Rawson will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville – Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Fennel, born July 10, 1941, in Gates, Tenn. to Louise Robison Fennel and the late Sam Fennel, was a member of Gates Methodist Church in Gates, Tenn. He was active in J.P. Hudson ballpark and a local chairman for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was employed by CNN Railroad in signal maintenance, and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his mother, Louise Fennel of Ripley, Tenn.; his wife, Mary Fennel of Batesville; two sons, Bubba and wife Theresa Fennel of Batesville and Lance Michael Fennel of Batesville; two brothers, Marcus Fennel of Union City, Tenn. and Sammy Fennel Nashville, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Delaince Chunn and the Chunn family; and four grandchildren, Jacob, Kayla, Lance and Emma Fennel.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
FERGUSON, Gladys Green
SARDIS – Gladys Green Ferguson, 79, died Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are today at 1 p.m. at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Cox and Hal Johnson officiated. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
Ferguson, born Nov. 10, 1927, to the late Willie Lee Sumner and the late Delaney Callihan Kyle Sumner, was an upholsterer for James Yelton Corporation and a member of the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Ferguson, and one son, Carl Burlison.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Bright McNemar of Sardis; one sister, Evelyn Sumner of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE – Annie Clyde Burns File, 90, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

File, born Sept. 21, 1915, in Pope to the late John Thomas Burns and the late Ocey Finch Burns, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ardeen File and her daughter, Rebecca File Land.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Marcia Land Kilpatrick, Linda Land Cole and Kathyrine Land Barbee, all of Batesville; one sister, Sarah John McIntosh of Mt. Holly, N.C. and four great-grandchildren.
FINCH, James E.
BATESVILLE – James E. Finch, 71, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at North West Medical Center in Clarksdale.
Graveside services were Wednesday at Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Doug Pepper officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Finch, born Oct. 15, 1934, in Panola County to the late Carl Bedford Finch and Christine McMinn Finch, was a private investigator for former Governor Cliff Finch. He took care of business, liked the outdoors and took pride in the country roadside.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Governor Cliff Finch.
FLAKE, Charles Nelson
MARKS – Charles Nelson Flake, 84, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial will be in Marks Cemetery. Visitation is today 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
Flake, born Dec. 3, 1921, was a WWII veteran serving in the First Seabee Branch of the U.S. Navy. He retired from FHA Administration in 1979, then served 10 years as Quitman County building inspector. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marks and was a graduate of Mississippi State University.
Survivors include five daughters, Donna Regel of Bartlett, Tenn., Peggy Roberts of Mobile, Ala., Sandy Flake of Marks, Sue Schmitt of Germantown, and Judy Flake of Marks; two step-children, Pam Johnson and David Auter; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

FLEMMONS, A.B.
BATESVILLE – A.B. Flemmons, 83, died Friday, October 6, 2006, at Sanctuary Hospice of Tupelo.
Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Hill officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Flemmons, born May 19, 1923, in Tallahatchie County to the late Arthur and Minnie Lee Davis Flemmons, was a retired restaurant owner, a member of the North Batesville Baptist Church, an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Batesville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Simmons Flemmons of Batesville; one son, Danny Ray Flemmons of Holly Springs; one step-daughter, Mary Alice Cain of Marks; one step-son, George Sullivan of Batesville; one sister, Annie Mae Flemmons Clay of Batesville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
FLINT, Calvin Etley Jr.
BATESVILLE – Calvin Etley Flint Jr., 89, died March 16, 2006.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Batesville First United Methodist Church. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Batesville – Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Junior was born in Batesville on December 29, 1916, to the late Calvin E. Flint Sr. and Nona Kinchloe Flint.
A graduate of Batesville High School, he attended Millsaps College where he played baseball. Following college, he played with the North Mississippi semi-pro league, and then with the Abbeville A’s of the Evangeline Baseball League in south Louisiana, and with the Danville Leafs, a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Between seasons he worked at Batesville’s oldest store, C.H. Flint and Son Hardware.
On December 19, 1942, he married Evelyn Louise Conger.
He was a World War II Army Veteran, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant and serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany.
Upon his return from the war in 1945, he went to work at C.H. Flint and Son Hardware and became a partner in 1947. He worked there until his death.
He was a member and served on the Batesville First United Methodist Church Administrative Board. He also served on the board of directors of United Southern Bank and Panola County Federal Savings and Loan Association and served as President, Vice President and board member of The Mississippi Retail Hardware Association. He is a past President and board member of Panola Country Club.
An avid golfer, he won many invitational tournaments throughout Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Conger Flint,, and is survived by his children, Lucy Fuller of Talladega, Ala. and Judy Flint Savage, Calvin E. Flint III, and Ben C. Flint, all of Batesville, as well as 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Edwin Armistead Flint and his wife Betty of Batesville.
The family has requested that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Batesville, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

FOGARTY, Mary Jane Daugherty
BATESVILLE – Mary Jane Daugherty Fogarty, 51, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Fogarty, born July 5, 1954, in Marks to Marlene Pearson Daugherty and the late Selmer Daugherty, was a homemaker.
Survivors, along with her mother, include two sons, Joey M. Pittman of Water Valley and Brian K. Pittman of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Carolyn Daugherty Peters of Memphis, Kathlene Daugherty Bonner of Courtland and Joan Daugherty Pruett of Batesville; four brothers, Tony Daugherty of Courtland, Jimmy Daugherty of Southaven, Gary Daugherty and James Roy Daugherty, both of Batesville and two grandchildren.

SARDIS – Tony L. Fox, 44, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.
Services were Friday at Greater Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ in Marks. Rev. F.C. Kelson officiated. Burial was in Booker Cemetery in Marks. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Fox, born July 20, 1961, in Marks to the late Henry Lee Perry and the late Eddie Mae Fox Perry, was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church in Marks.
Survivors include one brother, Tommy Fox of Marks and one sister, Bessie Roberson of Milwaukee, Wis.
FRANKLIN, Arthur Leo
BATESVILLE – Arthur Leo Franklin, 85, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at the First United Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Franklin, born March 31, 1921, to the late Rush H. and Hattie Bullard Franklin, was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church where he served as deacon and honorary deacon for 40 plus years. He was the retired owner of Franklin’s Barber Shop in Batesville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Bradley Franklin of Batesville; two daughters, Lawanda Franklin Holcomb and husband Rob of Batesville and Lisa Franklin Barber of Batesville; one sister, Annie Ruth Franklin of Pontotoc; one brother, Hershell Franklin of Pontotoc; three grandchildren, Joani Howell, Joel Howell and Bryce Barber and two great-grandchildren, Jaedan Howell and Jaya Howell.

HOLLY SPRINGS – Andrea LeShay Freeman, 31, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

Freeman was a factory worker and a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church.

Freeman, born July 5, 1917, to the late Van Lester and Henrietta Griffin, was a retired factory worker for Imperial Manufacture Company and a member of Pine Grove M.B. Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Moore of Memphis; one son, Frank Moore of Memphis; three grandchildren whom she raised, Edward Freeman Sr. and Dynall Freeman, both of Memphis, and Christopher Freeman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
FREEMAN, Larry Walter
SARDIS – Larry Walter Freeman, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, July 22 at the First Unitarian Church – Church of the River, 292 W. Virginia Ave, (Channel 3 Drive) in Memphis at 11:00 a.m. Canale Funeral Directors has charge.
Mr. Freeman was an expert aviator, a consultant for Freeland Properties and very proud of his Native American heritage.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanna Wieland Freeman; one sister, Bernice Mosley of Memphis; one brother, John Freeman of Germany and three nieces.

BATESVILLE – John Tom French, 76, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his residence.

French, born March 28, 1930, in Panola County to the late Johnny John and Julia Beatrice Sims French, was a retired lineman supervisor for T.V.E.P.A. serving for 47 1/2 years, a member of the Batesville Lions Club, a member of the Moose Lodge and served as Master of Dominoes at the Rocky Creek Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Morrow French of Batesville; two daughters, Jo Ann French Smith of Wiggins and Marsha "Margie" French Cain of Saucier; one son, John Robert French of Batesville; one sister, Juanita French Richardson of Batesville; one brother, James Edward French of Richland; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
FRISON, Rev. Nathaniel
Longtime Panola County pastor Rev. Nathaniel Frison died September 14 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was 78.
Frison was pastor of West Camp Baptist of Batesville. He was the owner of Hope’s Child Care. Formerly he had served as pastor of First M.B. Church in Memphis and Antioch M.B. Church of Batesville.
Visitations will be held in Memphis, Oxford and Batesville. On Wednesday, September 20, visitation will be at First M.B. Church of Memphis from 6-8 p.m., and on Thursday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Oxford, and from 6-8 p.m. at West Camp Church in Batesville.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 22 at 1 p.m. at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building.
The Rev. William Frison will officiate. Burial will be in Buford Chapel Cemetery in Oxford. Hodges Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Frison of Oxford; one son, Nate Frison of Oxford; one sister, Hazel Winston of Memphis; three brothers, E.L. Frison of Courtland, Haywood Frison of Memphis and Houston Frison of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his son Albert Frison.
FROST, Sammie Sr.
SARDIS – Sammie Frost Sr., 73, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven.
Services are Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Mt. Level M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge.
Frost was a retired farmer and a member of Ruffin Grove M.B. Church in Como.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Fletcher Frost, and one daughter, Mildred Frost Orr.
Survivors include four daughters, Alice Lark and Lurita Smith, both of Como, Gracie Frost of Senatobia and Ida Presley of Sarah; two sons, Sammie Frost Jr. of Como and Earnest Frost of Sardis; four sisters, Mattie Lockett, Sarah Henderson and Lizzie Frost, all of Como and Leora Callicutt of Sardis; one brother, David Frost of Como; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
