SARDIS – Ludia Mae Abram, 101, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at North Oak Hospital in Senatobia.
Services were Sunday at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church. Burial was in Mt. Pacience. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.
Abram was an usher at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church and a farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J.W. Abram.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Etta Hughey of Sardis; two sons, Jessie Abram of Sardis and James Abram of Como; 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
ADAIR, John K.
SARDIS – John K. Adair, 45, died Monday, June 5, 20006, at his residence.
Services were Saturday at Liberty Hill M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Jacob Hentz officiated. Burial was in in the Liberty Hill M.B. Church Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
Adair, born Oct. 18, 1961, to Jim Adair and the late Annie Bell Armstead Adair, was a labor worker and a member of Liberty Hill M.B. Church in Courtland.
Survivors, along with his father, include his wife, Eunice Adair of Sardis; four daughters, Amy Conner of Sardis and Monica House, Charlett House and Martha House, all of Batesville; two sons, Jonathan Adair and Brandon Adair, both of Sardis; three sisters; six brothers and 11 grandchildren.
AKIN, Beebee W. Spell
CLANTON, Ala. – Beebee W. Spell Akin, 72, died Friday, January 6, 2006, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala.
Akin, born Jan. 2, 1934, in Rankin County to the late Albert Spell and Vester Walters Spell, was a homemaker.
Services were Sunday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton, Ala. Dr. James Cooley and Rev. Scott Springer officiated. Burial was in Martin Memorial Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Roberts of Batesville and Cam Springer of Clanton; one son, Alan Akin of Clanton, Ala.; one brother, Bill Spell of Clinton, Miss. and seven grandchildren.
ALBRITTON, Billy Eugene
BATESVILLE – Billy Eugene Albritton, 67, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at his residence.
Services were Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Ellis and Rev. R.L. Wilcutt officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Albritton, born Sept. 10, 1939, in Crowder to the late Mary Gwin Johns Albritton and the late L.C. Albritton, was a retired truck driver for Goldkist Company and Smith Oil Company. He was also a security guard for Thermos. He was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sue Woods Albritton of Batesville; one son, Rickey Liddell Albritton of Bogalusa, La.; three daughters, Nita Gianelloni and husband Dewey of Batesville, Cathy Powell and husband Terry of Batesville and Tressie Thornton and husband Mitch of Richland; four grandchildren, April Burns, Colby Powell, Brett Allen and Brittany Allen and one great-grandchild, Levi Burns.
ALDRIDGE, T.W. "Fat"
COURTLAND – T.W. "Fat" Aldridge, 74, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services are today at 3 p.m. at Batesville Church of Christ. Robert Rawson and Michael Bates will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Aldridge, born Dec. 5, 1931, in Tate County to the late Samuel Pittman Aldridge and the late Gertrude Aldridge, was a service station manager.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Berl, and one sister, Virginia Wydick.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Morrow Aldridge of Courtland; one son, Mark Aldridge and wife Paula of Senatobia; one sister, Bobbie Roberson of Courtland; a host of nieces and nephews; and his grandchildren, Audra Laney and spouse Andrew of Southaven and Kacie Aldridge and best friend Judd Davis of Starkville.
Pallbearers were Jim Baronowski, Jimmy Bailey, Jim Dickerson, Phillip Smith, Danny Walker and Tom Walls. Honorary pallbearers were Woody Loden III, Woody Loden IV, Reginald Jones, Jim Fortune, Roy Durham, Gerald Roberts and Charles McMinn.
The family requests memorials be sent to Sardis Lake Christian Camp or Magnolia Bible Camp.

BATESVILLE- Rilla Mae Putman Aldy, 60, died Monday, November 6, 2006, at her residence.
Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Aldy, born July 25, 1946, to the late W.A. and Annabelle Putman, was a homemaker and a member of River Life Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Aldy.
Survivors include one daughter, Christy Tutor Griffin of Batesville; two sons, Larry Tutor and Tommy Tutor, both of Batesville; one sister, Margaret Putman Mason of Batesville; four brothers, Wayne Putman of Oxford, Greg Putman, J.J. Putman and William "Dub" Putman, all of Batesville and 8 grandchildren.
ALEXANDER, Carley Livingston
BATESVILLE – Carley Livingston Alexander, 96, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Fairfield Assisted Living.

Alexander, born Feb. 5, 1910, in Lafayette County to the late Reuben K. and Myrtle King Livingston, was a homemaker and a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G.T. "Alex" Alexander.
Survivors include one brother, Herman K. Livingston of Hernando; two nephews, Billy Livingston of Sardis and Dennis Livingston of Memphis, Tenn. and numerous cousins.
ALLEN, Irma Appleton
BATESVILLE- Irma Appleton Allen, 84, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at the Sardis Nursing Home.
Services were Saturday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Allen, born August 11, 1922, to the late Bessie Mae and the late Ernest F. Appleton Sr., was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Marilyn Allen of Sardis; four sisters, Martha Appleton Fowler of Batesville, Dorothy Appleton Ford of Sardis, Jeanne Appleton Hardin of Walls and Jewel Appleton McGehee of Sardis and two brothers, Bill Appleton of Oxford and Macel Appleton of Sardis.
ALRED, Anita Lorene Appleton
GRENADA – Anita Lorene Appleton Alred, 83, died Monday, January 23, 2006, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial was in Oddfellows Cemetery. Brother Jim Matheny, Brother Johnny Dinas and Dr. Bob Self officiated. Garner- Harper Funeral Home had charge.
Alred was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church and a member of Women’s Missionary Union for many years. She taught Sunday school and worked with the Girls’ Auxiliary in churches and did volunteer work with needy children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Fulton Alred; six brothers, Glendon Appleton, William F. Appleton, Clarence Appleton, Jack Appleton, Charlie Appleton and Otha Appleton; six sisters, Magdalene Brown, Mildred Cain, Polly Wilson, Lois Hanks, Elizabeth Scruggs and Rena Mae Beavers.
Survivors include one daughter Patricia Alred Smedley of Grenada; one sister Maudie Haley of Oxford; numerous nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Memorials may be made to either Emmanuel Baptist Church or Friendship Baptist Church or to donor’s choice.

WATER VALLEY – Sadie Catherine Snider Anthony, 80, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at her residence.
Services were Sunday at Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.
Anthony was retired from Big Yank Corporation and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Water Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis B. Anthony; her parents, Arthur Lister and Rachel Davis Snider, and one brother, Leon Snider.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathy Warren of Water Valley, Sandra Haymie of Oxford, Teresa Reinemann of Batesville and Ramona Anthony of Ocean Springs; three sons, Sammy Anthony of Water Valley, Jimmy Anthony of Batesville and Terry Anthony of Water Valley; two sisters, Mildred Nelson of Pope and Jeanette Lipscomb of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, James "Buddy " Snider of Crawfordsville, Ark. and Edwin Snider of Metairie, La.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
APPLEWHITE, Claude Raymond
MARKS – Claude Raymond Applewhite, 70, died Saturday, April 29, 2006.
Services were Tuesday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. Mike Dutton officiated. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Applewhite, born Dec. 31, 1935, to the late Pete Applewhite and the late Georgia Branun Applewhite, was a Baptist.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Applewhite, William Maurice Applewhite and George Applewhite, and one sister, Louise Applewhite Reynolds.
Survivors include two sisters, Thelma Pinedo of Benton, Ark., and Lois Roberson of Waco, Texas; one brother, Roy Appletwhite of Jacksboro, Texas; a niece who cared for him, Ruth Applewhite Colson and a nephew who cared for him, Billy Applewhite Sr. of Crowder.

WATER VALLEY- William Edward Applewhite, an infant, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Graveside services were Monday at Shiloh Cemetery in Oxford. Rev. Derek Starnes officiated. Waller Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include his parents, Melissa Ann Pierce Applewhite and Kenneth William Applewhite Jr. of Water Valley; his grandparents, Kenneth William Applewhite of Batesville and Ben and Ann McPhail of Water Valley, and Wilma Pierce Saxton of Oxford; his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Troy McCoy of Oxford, Mrs. Billy Applewhite of Batesville, Roy and Jill Mothershed of Batesville and Eddie Morrison of Belen.

HERNANDO – Irene Baldwin Armstrong, 53, died Sunday, May 29, 2006, at her residence. She was the aunt of Terri Howard and Tiffiney Moore, both of Batesville.
Services were Wednesday at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando. Burial was in Cleveland Cemetery. Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home had charge.
Armstrong was a member of Hernando Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Clifford McCain.
Survivors include her husband Steve Armstrong; one son, Brandon McCain of Hernando; her mother, Mary Jane Baldwin of Drew; three sisters, Lynda Hopper of Horn Lake, Brenda Scribner of Cleveland and Jeannie Livingston of Cleveland; three brothers, Roger D. Baldwin of Memphis, Calvin Baldwin of Cleveland and James "Smoky" Baldwin of Drew and one grandchild, Ethan Hunter McCain.
ARMSTRONG, Katie Blanche Scallorn
SARDIS – Katie Blanche Scallorn Armstrong, 91, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Armstrong, born Sept. 19, 1914, to the late George A. Scallorn and the late Cappie Lou Durham Scallorn, was a homemaker and a member of Como United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Armstrong.
Survivors include one son, George P. Norman of Como; one sister, Clara Fry of Sardis; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
AUSTIN, Charlie Abe
LAMBERT – Charlie Abe Austin, 71, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Mississippi State Veteran’s Home in Oxford.

Austin, born Aug. 18, 1934, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Austin of Lambert; two daughters, Myra Emison of Lambert and Donna Jones of Marks; one son Charles Allen Austin of Batesville; two sisters, Connie Kirkland of Crowder and Mary Jane Hutchens of Clarksdale; one brother Gerald Austin of Crowder and six grandchildren.

Austin, born Sept. 18, 1925, to the late William Luther Rogers and the late Fannie C. Martin, was a retired factory worker for Parker Hannifan Company and a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: one daughter, DeWanda Rogers of Batesville; three step-daughters, Fannie Wilborn, Dicie Mae James and Pauline Cross, all of Milwaukee; one step-son, Eugene Austin of Batesville; one sister, Ludie Lyons of Memphis; one brother, William Luther Rogers of Milwaukee, and two grandchildren.
AUTREY, Janie Grace Cole
BATESVILLE – Janie Grace Cole Autrey, 87, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Autrey, born March 31, 1918, to the late Hubert and Jessie Irene Grimes Brooks, was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Batesville, where she was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F.J. "Jelly" Autrey.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Carol Autrey McKittrick of Batesville; two sons, Jeff Autrey and Jerry Autrey, both of Batesville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

AUWARTER, Grace H.
RIDGELAND – Grace H. Auwarter, 87, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Services were Tuesday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home had charge.
Auwarter was administrator of the Old Ladies Home for 31 years. She was a 70-year member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jackson where she taught Sunday School for 25 years. She was also a member of the Alta-Raymond Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles William Auwarter.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn A. Alexander of Jackson; one son, William Donald of Jackson; four grandchildren including Charles C. Wright of Batesville and five grandchildren.

AVANT, Kenneth Earl
Kenneth Earl "Worm" Avant, 63, died September 16 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 18, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Forrest Memorial Park. Robert Rawson officiated.
Mr. Avant was an auto mechanic.
He was born April 11, 1943 in Quitman County to the late Homer and Eula Verma Bridwell Avant.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean Bolen Avant of Batesville; one daughter, Lynn Avant Hall of Batesville; two sisters, Eula Faye Avant Adams of Clarksdale and Elnora Avant Shields of Batesville; one brother, Sidney "L.Q." Avant of Batesville; two grandchildren, Katrina Lyn Hall and Kenneth Edward Hall, both of Batesville; and five great grandchildren, Kaelyn, Elijah and Kiley Hall, and Jacob and Cheyenne Taylor.

Avery, born March 6, 1921, in Batesville to the late Jessie Wright Wray and the late Eva Mae Wray, was a homemaker, a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and loved fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Avery Sr.; one brother, Waverly W. Wray and two sisters, Jessie Moore and Virginia Teague.
Survivors include one son, Claude Hubert Avery Jr. of Courtland; two daughters, Charlotte Bailey of Nesbit and Janet Roberson of Courtland; one sister, Peggy Dunn of Brandon; five grandchildren; 11 grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
