Jackson, Charles Millard
Charles Millard Jackson, 86, of Como, died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Walter Jackson officiated the service. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Como. Moore Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Jackson, son of the late R.P. and Effie Childress Jackson, was born November 23, 1915, in Panola County. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Panola County and a Baptist. He was the widower of the late Zola Mae Taylor Jackson.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Williams of Como; three sons, Charles Jackson of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Tommy Jackson and Bill Jackson, both of Como; a sister, Edith Bailey of Batesville; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
James, Elwood
Elwood James, 65, of Batesville, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart disease.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at 2 PM at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
James was a native of Panola County. He was a retired bus driver for the South Panola School District.
Survivors include his wife, Cornelia James of Batesville; five daughters, Lynn James, Michelle James, Kylie James and Lillie Carr, all of Batesville, and Barbara Hickman of Kentucky; three sons, Gary James, Ronnie James and Kelly Adair, all of Batesville; a sister, Doris Hentz of Batesville; a brother, Henry L. "Lank" James of Memphis, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jeter, Charles William
Charles William Jeter, 55, of Como, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at his home of cancer.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Charles Robertson officiated the service. Burial was in Glenville Cemetery in Como. Moore Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Jeter, son of the late Abe and Ruby Givens Jeter, was born April 23, 1947, in Ripley. He was a welder for BFI in Memphis, Tennessee, and a member of Harmontown Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Coggins Jeter of Como; a daughter, Amy McMaster of Como; a son, Christopher Jeter of Coldwater; three sisters, Mary Rines of Southaven, and Joyce Dunaway and Deborah Blackwell, both of Selmer, Tennessee; a brother, Abe Jeter, Jr. of Memphis; and three grandchildren.
Johnson, Alma Ruth
Alma Ruth Johnson, 68, of Como, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 11, at 1 p.m. at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Como. Rev. Walter Newson officiated the service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Johnson, daughter of the late Ben Taylor and Annie Mae Walton, was born September 16, 1932, in Panola County. She was a housewife and a member of Askew Grove M.B. Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Laura Johnson, Lois Johnson and Nancy Johnson, all of Como; six sons, Cleveland Johnson, Jr., Billy Johnson, Clifton Johnson, all of Como, Willie Johnson and Larry Johnson, both of Senatobia, and James Johnson of Courtland; a sister, Lizzie Mae Johnson of Como; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Johnson, Irene Foster
Irene Foster Johnson, 94, of Walls, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her home of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Horn Lake First Baptist Church. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Como. Hernando Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Johnson was a homemaker and a member of Horn Lake First Baptist Church. She was the widow of the Roger Johnson, Sr.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruby Lois Leeth of Apple Valley, California, Jessie Lee Parke of Southaven, Betty McIver of Sarah and Ann Burchfield of Walls; two sons, Richard Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Roger Johnson of Lula; a sister, Virginia Huddleston of Little Rock, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 25 great, great-grandchildren.
Joiner, William D.
William D. Joiner, 63, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Panola County, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at St. Benard Hospital in Chicago of a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 25, at 1 p.m. at Harrisonville M.B. Church in Oxford. Burial was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Joiner was a native of Panola County, and a former resident of Oxford. He was a mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Joiner of Chicago, Illinois; four daughters, Mia McKinney of Memphis, Tennessee, Lendell Nelson of Seattle, Washington, and Wynell Jackson and Stephana Thompson, both of Sardis; four sons, David Joiner of Oxford, Michael Joiner of Memphis, Ronny Joiner of Chicago, and Preston King of Michigan City, Indiana; four sisters, Angie Draper, Clara Henderson and Thelma Murry, all of Oxford, and Rose Hart of Chicago; four brothers, Harvey Joiner of Oxford, and Columbus Joiner, Jr., James Joiner and Willie Joiner, all of Chicago; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

William Young Joiner, 74, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Batesville, died Friday, January 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – East of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 25, at noon, at Cummings Street Baptist Church in Memphis. Rev. Roney Strong, Sr. officiated the service. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. R.S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Joiner, son of the late Chalmus and Elgenia Joiner, was born March 6, 1927, in Panola County. He was a retired construction worker and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the widower of the late Velma Lee Turner Joiner. He as preceded in death by two brothers, George Joiner and Hosea Joiner; and three sisters, Loise Woodard, Sallie Shaw and Katherine Willingham.
Survivors include three daughters, Jerri J. Joiner, Asariner Harper, Jacqueline Y. Parson, all of Memphis; four sons, Marvin L. Joiner, Steve R. Joiner, Ronald L. Joiner, Donald R. Joiner, all of Memphis; a brother, Haywood B. Joiner, Sr., of Boyce, Louisiana; 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Georgia Lucas Jones, 91, of Charleston, died Thursday, February 7, 2002, at Grenada Lake Medical Center of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 10, at 2 PM at Little Hubbard M.B. Church in Charleston. Rev. G. Swims officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Jones, daughter of the late Ed Lucas, was born October 10, 1910, in Grenada. She was a housewife and a member of Little Hubbard M.B. Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgia Kimbrel of Charleston and Velma Daniels of Chicago, Illinois; a son, C. Joe Jones of Summer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.
