Sheriff’s Report: threats come over phone, in person

South Pine Lane home caught fire Friday, March 3 after electrical issues occurred in the 30-year-old home.
“I observed fire damage to the front door and porch area, roof damage and a small amount of smoke damage to the inside. I observed a ceiling fan on the front porch that had fallen during the fire,” said Investigator Terry Smith.
The resident heard a loud thud, believed to have been the ceiling fan falling, and then saw flames on the porch.
Deputy Maurice Market responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 315 East, Sardis. The driver reported noticing smoke coming from under his vehicle as he was traveling east on Highway 315 and pulled over and called 911.
Investigator Smith was called to a second fire investigation on Shell Road, Saturday, March 4.
The resident stated he and three females were sitting inside his enclosed shed with a fire in a barrel type wood burner.
According to the report, sparks came out and started a fire in the shed that spread to the house and the small country store.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office received 38 reports requesting service from Panola County Deputies from March 2 to March 10.
March 2
• Deputy Darryl House spoke to an Edward Road, Sardis resident who reported an individual stole her cell phone while she was asleep and sold it for $15.
• Deputy Josh Griffin responded to Dina Lane where the resident reported he was at Rite Mart Store when he was confronted by suspects making threats to physically harm him.
March 3
• Glenville Road resident reported her boyfriend was drinking and began to behave erratically. According to the report, the youngest child in the home came into the living room crying and the suspect began threatening the two older children because he believed they pushed the child off the bed.
The suspect took the children’s phones and threw them and then threatened the children, according to the report. The suspect left before Deputy Griffin arrived and the resident and her children left the residence after speaking to Deputy Griffin.
• Taylor Road, Courtland resident reported to Deputy George Renfroe he was notified by the Panola County Justice court in reference to a lawsuit filed against him by a credit card company. The resident stated he doesn’t own a credit card.
• Lucious Taylor Road, Como resident reported being threatened over the phone when the resident attempted to repossess a 2002 Ford Escape the resident had previously sold to a Memphis resident.
March 4
• Deputy Emily Griffin responded to Hunter’s Chapel Road for a disturbance. According to the report, the resident was attacked by her nephew after she instructed him to do chores.
The resident stated her nephew “football tackled” her across the residence and his mother had to get him off of her and he then pushed and hit his mother.
• Sees Chapel Road resident reported to Deputy Renfroe the suspect came into her bedroom and woke her about a bottle of whiskey.
According to the report, the suspect began hitting the resident in the side of the head and left before Deputy Renfroe arrived.
• Belmont Road resident reported her ex-boyfriend who was instructed not to contact her still calls and texts her.
• Deputy Hunter Lawrence spoke to a Barnacre Road resident who reported receiving threatening text messages from two individuals
March 5
• Deputy Britton Crawford responded to Chapel Hill Road to make a home visit with the Department of Human Services caseworkers in regard to child abuse allegations.
Statements were taken from both parents and pictures were taken of the child’s arm. According to the report, caseworkers advised the stepfather to remove himself from the home temporarily until an evaluation could be done.
• Hunter Chapel Road, Como resident reported to Deputy Crawford he and his aunt got into an argument and stated she began taunting him and blocking him from leaving.
According to the report, the aunt began hitting him and scratched his face. The resident stated he could only push her in order to try and keep her away.
• Deputy Jeff Still investigated a burglary on Good Hope Road where the suspect entered through the back window of the church. Nothing was reported missing.
• Fulmer Road, Como resident reported to Deputy Renfroe someone broke into his shed and stole a .22 caliber Marlin, .270 Ruger, .3030 Marlin Rifle, toolbox, racing jack, freon gauges, two 22 freon jugs, two 410 freon jugs, welding mig, and a lawnmower.
• Deputy Jeff Still responded to a burglary on Henry Extension, Courtland where the resident stated a Play Station 4, .22 rifle, 12 gauge shot gun and 30-30 were taken.
• Riverview Road, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Renfroe his ex-wife and another individual were to meet to exchange their child and stated the suspect got out of her vehicle screaming, cursing and threatening to hit him.
March 6
• Investigator Danny Beavers spoke to a Water Valley resident who reported her ex-boyfriend intentionally rammed her ‘99 Ford truck in an attempt to cause bodily harm.
According to the report, the resident went to the suspect’s residence to get a stool and table and the suspect got mad so she left.
The resident stated the suspect began to chase her back to the city limits and turned around and left.
• Deputy John Still spoke to a Main Street, Courtland resident who reported she and her husband got into an altercation.
According to the report, both individuals had differing stories and scratches to their faces. Both residents were taken into custody and charged with domestic violence.
• Lieutenant Chuck Tucker responded to Barker Road, Courtland, for a breaking and entering.
According to the report, the resident advised she returned home to find her closet door open and her mattress moved. The resident reported nothing was missing.
• Liberty Hill Road resident stated an individual came to look at buying her 2005 Nissan Sentra and was told the car is not to leave the yard unless the $800 had been paid.
According to the report, the resident was inside cooking when she looked outside and noticed the car was gone.
Another resident reported the suspect stated he was going to take the vehicle down the road to see if anything was wrong with it.
The resident stated she has made contact with the suspect but he has yet to bring back the car or pay the money.
March 7
• Deputy Hailey was conducting a driver’s license check point at the intersection of Good Hope and Eureka Road and had a vehicle stopped that had been reported to have guns and drugs in the vehicle.
Upon inspection of the vehicle a wooden box containing what appeared to be marijuana was found, according to the report.
The driver had two pocket knives in his front pockets and a pistol was collected from the center console.
According to the report, a metal container wrapped in black electrical tape containing a crystal-like substance which appeared to be ice was collected from the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and Investigator Smith was notified of the incident.
• Ramsey Circle, Sardis resident reported her 14-year-old daughter was assaulted and pushed to the ground.
March 8
• Deputy Harold Lewis spoke to a Barnacre Road resident who reported her son assaulted her. According to the report, the suspect became angry when he over-slept for school and asked her to get his clothes out of the dryer.
The resident stated the suspect then jumped up and grabbed her around the neck and punched her because she didn’t move right away.
• Woodruff Road resident reported a white Chevy ran through a barbwire fence. According to the report, no driver was on the scene and the property owner advised no report was needed.
• Enid Dam Road, Pope resident reported to Deputy Renfroe he had video of the suspect driving up to his gas pumps and spraying the front with black paint. According to the report, the suspect admitted to spraying the pumps.
March 9
• Deputy Crawford was patrolling the area of Hentz Road and I-55 when he saw two subjects walking down the road. According to the report, one suspect appeared to be a wanted person from Arkansas.
Both subjects gave their names and one provided his driver’s license and informed Deputy Crawford that the other individual had given a false name.
Deputy Renfroe arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody. According to the report, Deputy Crawford noticed the suspect had a small white plastic bag in his left hand which the suspect advised it was ice.
• Shiloh Road, Courtland resident received a call from an individual who witnessed two suspects coming from the residence. The resident reported a .22 pistol, five packs of cigarettes, five cigars and a case of Sprites was stolen.
• Highway 51, Sardis resident reported an individual continuously goes through her mailbox. According to the report, the suspect has been asked by the landlord and Panola County Deputies to not go onto the property.
• Highway 35, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Lawrence she is being harassed by an individual. According to the report, the suspect was caught raiding the resident’s trot lines at Sardis Lake.
March 10
• Sardis Lake Drive resident reported a gun stolen out of his vehicle.
