Wave wins at Grenada High – Sweep Clarksdale Lee

North Delta baseball opened its District 1-4A slate with a three-game sweep of Clarksdale Lee then capped off the week with a 5-2 road win at Grenada High School on Saturday.

The Green Wave (12-6, 3-0) was scheduled to continue district play on Tuesday (March 25), hosting Indianola in a doubleheader before visiting the Colonials Thursday and Winona Christian Saturday.

Grenada 2

The Green Wave perhaps pulled off its biggest win of the season by defeating Grenada – ranked No. 2 in the 6A poll at the time.

North Delta led 3-0 after three complete innings before the Chargers plated two runs in the fourth only to have the Green Wave add single runs in the fifth and seventh frame.

Sophomore Jett Manning tossed 4.1 innings to earn the pitching win with Karson Ware picked up the save with 2.2 scoreless innings.

  

Kolby Baker paced North Delta at the plate with a single and double while Landon Hoshell added a double and scored two runs.

Owens Johnson, Herron Williams, Hunter Carpenter and  Alex Jackson provided singles. Williams drove in a run to bring his state-leading RBI total to 33 on the year.

The Green Wave pounded out 15 hits in the series finale in the three game sweep of the Colts Thursday (March 20).

North Delta took a twinbill 15-2 and 15-12 in Clarksdale Tuesday (March 18).

Manning and Williams drove in three runs each while Baker and Hoshell added two RBIs as North Delta ended the game with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Will Carpenter, Jackson and Ware all singled while Johnson registered two singles,two stolen bases and scored three runs.

Preston Shipp, Evan Mayfield and Hayden Riva scored runs while Johnson fanned eight over five innings on the mound to earn the pitching victory.

Ware closed the game with two strikeouts on two hits in one inning of relief.
