Violet Lucas, 94, of Sardis, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Diversicare in Batesville.

A memorial service for Ms Lucas will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 19,  in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. prior to the service at Wells.

Violet was born July 9, 1928, in Memphis, to the late A.A. Rutherford and Mertice Brooks Rutherford. Violet was a retired seamstress with Big Yank in Water Valley, MS. Violet loved to travel and especially loved to sew. She made all the dresses for the Governor’s Ball when Governor Cliff Finch was elected.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Lucas, five children, Daniel Gregory, Evelyn Gregory, Larry Lucas, Grady Lucas, and Dewayne Lucas, and nine siblings.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, David Lucas, of Sardis,  one sister, Joy Welch, of Abbeville,  and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
