Dennis Lightsey,  77, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Oxford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 13,  at the Batesville Presbyterian Church with the interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Dennis was born on Oct. 29, 1944 to the late William Bufkin Lightsey and Marjorie Elizabeth Petit Lightsey in Batesville, MS. He was the proud business owner of Lightsey Shoe Repair and a member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church.

Dennis looked forward to Friday nights so he could watch the South Panola Tigers play football. In his down time, he would often be found fishing, or working and doing anything he could with his hands, like cooking and grilling.  He especially loved to cook for those who are homebound and would take food to them and visit for a while.

The family he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his daughter, Jana Brock (Jeffrey) of Batesville; his two sons, Shayne Spence of Eudora,  and Paxton Spence of Southaven; three brothers, Malcolm Lightsey of Madison,  Sam Lightsey of Odessa, TX, and Jerry Lightsey of Batesville; 3 grandchildren, Hunter Brock, Hannah Spence, and Colton Spence.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Dianne Lightsey and one brother, Robert H. Lightsey.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
