Michael Lynn Brown

Michael Lynn Brown, 54, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 at Baptist DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

A celebration of life will be held today (Jan. 10) at 11 a.m. at Evansville Baptist Church in Coldwater.

Michael was born March 19, 1965 in Kilmichael. He honorably served his country in the US Army. Michael worked as a self-employed carpenter up until his health kept him from working.

 

Wayne Goodnite

Wayne Goodnite, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Wells Funeral Home. The family had a private committal service Wednesday morning at Black Jack Cemetery in Batesville.

He was a cattleman and breeder on his farm in Sardis for many years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Jean Goodnite; son, John W. Goodnite, of

Sardis; sister, Gene Brown, of Batesville; two brothers, George Goodnite, of

Batesville, and J.T. Goodnite, of Batesville; four grandchildren and four great-

grandchildren.

 

William C. “Bill” Harrison

William C. “Bill” Harrison, 89, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at his home in Oakland.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 9, at the First Baptist Church in Sardis, with burial at Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the Mississippi National Guard and was honorably discharged in October of 1960.

He was the  owner of Bill’s Super Sheer for 61 years, and a cattle farmer.

 

Mildred Noe Howe

Mildred Noe Howe, long time resident of Oakland, was born Oct. 17, 1928.  She entered Heaven’s Gates on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Mildred loved working in her yard, gardening, quilting, and spending time with her family.  She loved watching football and baseball games on television.

She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Grenada, Miss.  Mildred retired after working over 20 years at Heatcraft in Grenada.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ethel Birt Howe, Jr.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Howe; three sisters, Frances Hawkins, Doris Jenkins, and Dorothy Shrader; three brothers, Raymond Noe, Rayford Noe, and Jackie Noe; and her parents, Earl Herbert and Jessie Fisackerly Noe.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Pat Harbin, of Grenada, Miss., Lynda Thompson, of Batesville, and Joyce Moore (Bobby), of Crowder; two sons, Butch Howe (Susie) of Coffeeville, and Bubba Howe (Lee Ann) of Tillatoba; a daughter-in-law, Christine Howe of Grenada; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services celebrating her life were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6,  at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Bob Self, Bro. Eddie Randolph, and Bro. Rickey Harris officiating. 

Interment was in the Goshen Cemetery near Coffeeville. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Pallbearers were Robbie Howe, Chris Ford, Scotty Ford, Jacob Thompson, Bradley Moore, Jeremy Howe, and Justin Howe.

The family gives their greatest gratitude to Baptist Hospice who cared for Mama. Be still and know that I am God.  Psalm 46:10.

Willie James Pegues

Funeral services for Willie James Pegues, 81, were held Thursday, Jan. 9, at New Providence M.B. Church with Pastor Albert Booker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He died Jan. 5, 2020, at his home in Courtland.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He was a retired machine operator at Holly Automotive.

 

Eva H. Scott,

Eva H. Scott, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, in Enid.

She was born April 13, 1949, to the late Thomas House and Johnie Jones House. She was a homemaker.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Angelene Thane of Pensacola, FL, and Lynn Stewart of Enid; one son, Ewel Scott of Enid; one sister, Alice Rowland of Dardanelle, AR; one brother, Tommy House of Marion, AR; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Cecelia Carver; and one brother, James Carver.

 

Laron Shannon,

Funeral services for Laron Shannon, 65, will be held Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid with Pastor William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Cooley’s Mortuary.

He died Jan. 8, 2020.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
