On June 3 the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) presented a surplus vehicle to Batesville for use in the inmate litter program. The program has removed 2,203 bags of litter from state highways within the city limits through May of the current fiscal year. Pictured (from left) is David Karr, Batesville Public Works Director; Courtney Collins Goode, MDOT District 2 Litter Prevention Coordinator; and Batesville Mayor Jerry Autrey. The state program provides a truck and funds for the salary of one full-time litter patrol employee. The city pays three or four part-time employees to assist in litter collection, mostly on Hwys. 6 and 51. (Myra Bean)
