While visiting a neighbor last week, she stated, “Oh! I forgot to turn on the television news this morning to see how many got shot last night.” Isn’t it sad to know that is the first thing we hear every morning on the Memphis television stations?

It reminds me of the song that Ann Murray recorded, “Oh, I’d like to hear a little good news today…Nobody got shot…nobody burn a building down…”

Last week I promised readers a very interesting article this week. Donald Wright and I rode the school bus together many years ago. He was always a “thinker” and would challenge you to use your brain as well.

He called me several weeks ago with something that has been bothering him for a long time. Here is Donald’s story as told to me:

“I have been a coon hunter from the time I was 12 years old until I was about 70. I have hunted in the UKC and also with the Professional Coon Hunter Association. I have acquired many trophies as a result. I always looked for the tracks of what my dogs were tracking. I consider myself a pretty good judge of tracks.”

“My question is this: Why would the South Panola Tigers put a dog paw print as their emblem? TIgers are in the cat family and cats have five toes! Coons and lions also have five toes although some have four on the back. Dogs have four toes. Do you want to be the South Panola Dogs? Or Dawgs? Or the South Panola Tigers?”

“If so, get the right emblem on your equipment. It worries me to death every time I see a baseball cap or a shirt with only four toes printed on it. That’s a dog, ya’ll!”

“Would you want to ride down the road in a Cadillac with a Ford emblem on it? It just ain’t right. When we were in school we did not have a paw print. It was only a great big tiger emblem on everything.”

“Now to answer the question that was printed in big headlines in last Friday’s paper – How many toes does the Easter Bunny have? The answer is four. Consider this:

A squirrel jumped from limb to limb

He told the rabbit to follow him.

The rabbit said, I won’t do it, you do it yourself,

You just want me to fall down and kill myself!”

Whee! Now that we have all of this information, what are we going to do with it? It has just about blown my mind. While writing this article for Donald I got to thinking, How many toes does a crow have? An alligator? A frog? This has got to stop. I’m going crazy!

Elizabeth Browning celebrated her 94th birthday Monday, April 1. She was hoping to get 94 cards. She got 106. And guess what, Liz? I haven’t even mailed the one from the Ladies Sunday School Class and  my own. I’m bringing them by. Won’t that be even better?

The antics around the hiring and firing of Joe Azar has looked very unprofessional. Most high school student councils operate their business with more professionalism.

I have thought of the Panola Partnership as a snooty little country club. (Don’t worry – I’ve said the same thing about some churches, too.)

It takes a mighty big man that can get fired on a  Thursday and go back to work for the same ones who fired you on a Monday!

God bless to all – count your toes this week and also your blessings. Got some news? Call me at home 563-1742 or send me a text at 901-828-8824.
