BJH falls in Oxford sweep

The Batesville seventh and eighth grade football teams could not get anything going offensively as they fell to visiting Oxford Thursday.
The seventh grade Tiger squad lost 8-0 while the Oxford eighth team eased to a 33-6 victory in the nightcap.
Blake Pride led Batesville’s seventh grade unit with five carries for 22 yards. Jamarion Sanford added eight carries for 21 yards. Tra’ Johnson chipped in with two carries for eight yards while catching one pass for six yards.
The only score of the game came on a nine-play; 43-yard Oxford drive that ended in a two-yard run with 2:02 left in the first half.

The Chargers ran the opening kickoff back 73 yards to grab an early 7-0 lead before cruising to a big victory. Batesville only score came with 1:57 left in the first half as quarterback Anterio Draper scored on a five-yard run. The drive was set up by a 30 yard pass completion from Draper to Illijah Battle on a 4th-and-23 from the Charger 39.
Draper completed two passes, both to Battle, for 84 yards in the game. Draper and Charles Fox registered fumble recoveries for the Tiger defense.
Batesville will be back in action tonight as the host Coleman Junior High from Greenville beginning at 5 p.m.
