David Ely Dyess
BATESVILLE––David Ely Dyess, 66, of Batesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi in Oxford.
Services were held Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Courtland Baptist Church. Interment was held at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
He was born in Greenwood, on July 14, 1949. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. He was employed for 36 years with TallahatchieValley Electric Power Association and was also a member of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved taking care of his grandson, Logan. David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Harris Dyess of Batesville; one daughter, Julie Darby (Brad) and one grandson, Logan Darby, all of Coldwater.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Margaret Harris and his father-in-law, Ben Harris.
The family has requested that memorials be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Michael Wayne Darby Sr.
BATSVILLE–Michael Wayne “Mike” Darby Sr., age 65, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 14, 2016 at Merit Health in Batesville.
Services were held Sunday at Willow Springs Assembly of God in Enid. Interment followed the service at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville.
Born January 23, 1951, to the late Eddie Carl Darby and Minnie Ella Darby in Batesville, Mike was a devoted member of Willow Springs Assembly of God. He served as church secretary, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. Mike was a farmer by trade. He was the manager of Yocona Gin for 10 years.
Mike served as Supervisor of District 3 from 1992 to 1996, where he was the President of the Board of Supervisors. Mike was the first MS FFA President to be from Batesville and a former President of the FFA Chapter at Mississippi State University.
Those left behind to cherish Mike’s memory include his loving wife, Johnnie King Darby of Pope, his daughter, Mandy Darby Christopher (John) of Brandon; two sons, Michael Wayne Darby Jr. (Jennifer) of Batesville and Richie Darby (Courtney) also of Batesville, two brothers, Tommy Darby (Sherry) of Enid, and Charley Darby (Lisa) of Enid, and a host of nieces and nephews.

James “Buddy” Madkins
ST. LOUIS –– James “Buddy” Madkins, 69, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, July 11, 2016.
Services were held Saturday at Shiloh M. B. Church in Courtland. Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Madkins, born March 1, 1947, in Batesville, to the late Arthur Madkins and Clara Knox Madkins, was a member of Watkins Temple M.B. Church in St. Louis.
Irene Roberson
MARKS––Irene Roberson, 102, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at her residence in Terry.
Services were held Sunday in Community Baptist Church in Lambert. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Roberson was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mildred Sisk
POPE––Mildred Sisk, 94, passed away at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston, Friday, July 15, 2016.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 22 at two o’clock at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tenn. 38133. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23 at two o’clock at Courtland United Methodist Church, 198 E. Railroad Ave, Courtland.
She leaves her three children, Walter Sisk Jr. and Marcy Keith, both of Pope and Pamela Coburn (Kimball Coburn) of Claremont, Calif. She leaves 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She loved fishing, gardening, playing cards and dominoes, and most of all, enjoyed her time with her family from near and far. She served in the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Women as a local, district, and conference officer. She also served in the UMW of Courtland.
Mrs. Sisk was fun with a contagious laugh that brought joy to all. She was compassionate and caring, touching the hearts of many. She lived humbly, but was rich in faith. After graduating from hospice twice, she now rests in peace.
Derrick Dewayne Young
COMO – Derrick Dewayne Young, 36, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Coffeeville.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer M.B. Church, east of Como. Pastor Bobby Walker will officiate. Interment will be held in the churchcemetery.
Young was a member of New Greater Light M.B. Church in Sardis.
