Grace Cowsert
SARDIS––Grace Ray Cowsert, 79, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.
Services were held Saturday at Ray Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis. Interment was held at Hebron Cemetery. Ray Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
She was born on September 10, 1936 in Panola County to the late Ruth Phelps Ray and Marvin Ray.
She was member of Hebron Baptist Church, was very outgoing and knew everyone. She owned and operated numerous businesses in Sardis during her life and was a columnist for Sardis Nursing Home.
She is survived by one sister, Janet Ray of Batesville; two nieces, Linda Potts Crocker of Sardis and Louise Brooks Gray of Pope; one nephew, Edward Brooks of Enid and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cowsert, her parents, sister, Frances Ray Brooks and brother, Aubrey Ray.
Donald E. Faulkner
MADISON — Donald E. Faulkner, 77, of Madison, passed away on June 23, 2016.
Services were held Sunday at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Interment was held at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
He was born on December 11, 1938 in Vicksburg to parents Ernest and Tessie Faulkner.
After graduating from Carr Central High School in Vicksburg in 1957, he attended Millsaps College, graduating in 1961 with a B.S. in physics. While there, he studied as a student trainee in the High-voltage Lab at Oak Ridge National Laboratory during the summer of 1960. Donald also attended University of Rochester under an Atomic Energy Commission Special Fellowship, obtaining a M.S. in radiation biology in 1962.
Donald was math and physics instructor at H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg from 1962 to 1965, as well as teaching at Millsaps College from 1965 to 1971 and Hinds Community College from 1971 to 1999. He retired from teaching January 1, 2000. Donald was a member Broadmoor Baptist Church, where he taught as Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Jackson Amateur Radio Club and Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honor Society. His hobbies included amateur radio, computer programming, photography, target shooting and reading. His favorite verse was The 23rd Psalm.
Donald E. Faulkner was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Tessie Faulkner, and his daughter, Katherine Lott Farish. He is survived by his loving wife, Bettye Lynn Faulkner, and grandson, Andrew Lott.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church’s Lottie Moon or Annie Armstrong missions.
Gloria Golden
BATESVILLE––Mrs. Gloria Golden, 69, passed away Saturday June 18, 2016, at her residence.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 22, at Belen Cemetery.
Mrs. Golden was a retired CNA for Quitman County Nursing Home in Marks.
Mrs. Golden is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Jenkins of Batesville; three step-daughters, Lisa Golden (Jimmy) Mills of Crowder, Angela Golden Brewer of Batesville and Rhonda Golden (David) Tutor of Olive Branch; sons, Terry Potts of Batesville and Danny (Emily) Potts of Coles Point; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Golden, her parents Roy and Bobbie Kelly and one granddaughter Shelby Epps.

T. Wayne Hall
T. Wayne Hall, 70, died Friday, June 24, 2016, at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at Chickasaw Hill Pavilion at Enid Lake in Pope. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Hall, born Feb. 27, 1946, to the late Clifton Clyde Hall and Rosie Welch Hall, in Memphis, served in the U.S. Army. He was a 100 percent disabled Vietnam Veteran and helicopter pilot.
Ernest Jackson
COMO––Ernest Jackson, 34, died Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Services were held Saturday at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Interment was at Cistern Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
Jackson, born June 7, 1982, in Sardis, to Jeanette Eppenger Jackson of Como and the late Ernest Jackson Sr., graduated from North Panola High School.
Marie Wardlaw Massie
Marie Wardlaw Massie, 87, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services were held Tuesday, June 21, at Ray Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
She was born on February 2, 1929 in Sardis to Enevoy McCall Wardlaw and Garner William Wardlaw. She was a former telephone operator and a dedicated homemaker, who loved her family dearly.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sardis, where she was involved with the WMU and was active in other church events.
She was a devoted Christian lady, whose ministry was cooking for members of the community who were ill or in need.
Mrs. Massie is survived by one daughter Carol R. Massie of Cordova; one son, Arthur Massie (Theresa) of Como; one sister, Rose Woodall of Dickson, Tenn.; her dedicated caregiver, Linda Smith; and her grandchildren, Cole Massie (Lindsay) and Jeremy Massie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Massie; two sisters, Billie Mooneyham and Dorothy Burnette and her parents Enevoy Wardlaw Creasy and Garner William Wardlaw.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Sardis First Baptist Church or to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tenn.
R.C. “Cope” Mitchell
Mr. R.C. “Cope” Mitchell, age 88, passed away at his residence early Tuesday morning June 21, 2016. The funeral service will be held Thursday June 23, 2016 11:00 a.m. at Blue Lake Baptist Church.
Mr. Mitchell a faithful member of Blue Lake Baptist Church since 1960 and was retired.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife Betty Mitchell of Lambert, one daughter Rita Knudsen of Cumming, GA., one son Larry (Virgie) Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL. and two grandchildren David (Josette) Knudsen of
Cumming, GA. & Larissa (Joseph) Gorden of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents A.C. & Annie Mitchell, son-in-law Buck Knudsen one grandson Mitchell Knudsen, three sisters and two brothers.

Elmore Phillips
SARDIS––Elmore Phillips, 60, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at New Trinity M.B. Church in Como. Interment was held at Askew Grove Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.
Phillips worked in construction.
Vernon Lee White Jr.
Vernon Lee White Jr., 72, died Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Baptist East Hospital.
Services were held Friday at Henderson Funeral Home. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
White was born October 17, 1943, to the late Vernon Lee White Sr. and Mae Dempsey.
