Defendants are warned ‘pay it or serve it’ for old fines

Most defendants in Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court faced judge Bill McKenzie due to failing to pay old fines.
Jerrick D. Todd, 251 Barker Rd., Courtland, paid his old fines of $243 in full prior to court. The fines have been due since June 2015.
Lauren E. Robison, 247 Pollard, Batesville, told the judge she’d have her fines paid in full by Friday afternoon after he told her she would serve 30 days if she failed to pay $1,393 due since August 2015.
Charles Orr Sr., 128 Patton Lane, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to contempt of court and old fines of $417 due since November 2015. Since Orr was already in jail awaiting trial for a felony case, the judge sentenced him to 90 days in jail to satisfy his fines while he’s awaiting his felony trial.
Kajarvis B. Bradford, 108 Vance St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to contempt of court and old fines of $546 due since July 2015.
Bradford was told to have his fines paid in full or serve time in jail.
“Pay it or serve it,” the judge said.
Martize Wallace, 219-A Shiloh Rd., Courtland, paid fines of $361 in full prior to court for old fines due since July 2015.
He had new fines of $562 for running a stop sign and driving while license suspended.
Alyiah T. Scott, 311 Armstrong, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct and was fined $328. She also had old fines of $1,217 due since May 2015.
She was told to get busy finding the money to pay in full or serve time in jail.
Justin Fletcher, 712 Bethlehem Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault and had old fines of $1,167 due since January 2015.
Fletcher was sentenced to time in jail to satisfy all of his fines.
Terance C. Harris, 15326 Ballentine, Sardis, failed to appear to answer open container charges.
Ricky Wayne Keen, 201 Birch St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk and was fined $225.
He also had old fines of $418 due since September 2012 he told the judge he would have paid in full.
Darrien D. Milton, 123 Vance St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana in a vehicle and no tag light. He was fined $838.
Billy R. Tate Jr., 895-B Main St., Pope, entered a guilty plea to possession of marijuana in a vehicle and no tag light. He was fined $838.
Joshua R. Holmes, 92 Sherwood Dr., Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for possession of marijuana in a vehicle. Alright Bonding was notified.
Terrance M. Ellis, 109 Jones St., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana and firearm enhancement penalty. He was fined $1,214.
Ellis also had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Eddie Harris failed to appear to prosecute.
Vuanita L. Powers, 2609 Walnut Hill, Oxford, failed to appear to bring proof of legitimate prescriptions after entering a not guilty plea to simple possession of controlled substance last week. Al Williams Bonding was notified.
Latoya L. Fondren, 202 Jefferies St, Batesville, had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Katonya Pride failed to appear to prosecute.
Brandon Hamilton, 104 Gore St., Batesville, had a domestic violence-simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Danielle Joiner, failed to appear to prosecute.
Dennis C. Henderson, 105 Lester St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. He was sentenced to 13 days in jail which he served while awaiting trial and was released after court. His fines were satisfied.
Carolyn Palmertree, 219 Bates, Batesville, failed to appear to answer charges for domestic violence-simple assault. A warrant was issued.
Savannah Simpson, 114 Gore Circle, Water Valley, had a case for shoplifting continued. She was picked up by MDOC before court.
During a case set for trial Brandon Faulkner, 309 Arizona St., Batesville, was found guilty in his abscense for no seat belt after the officer testified. He was fined $35.
Kanoda K. Lewis, 240 MLK, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to no turn signal and was fined $155.
Damontry F. Boyd, 225 Vance St., Batesville, was fined $149 for speeding on April 16.
Dulce R. Lopez, 216 Broadway, Batesville, had a simple assault case dismissed after a short trial.
Stanley McMiller Jr., 165 Henry Dr. Ext., Courtland, had a case for domestic violence-simple and disturbing the peace continued.
Jimmy D. Appleton, 1036 Hubbard Road, Pope, pleaded not guilty to trespassing. A trial was set for June 15.
