Dolores “Dr. B.” Barnett
BATESVILLE––Dolores “Dr. B” W. Barnett, age 84, passed away May 17, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Batesville with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating. Interment followed at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Dolores was born December 28, 1931 to the late Dewey Watts and Marguerite Austin Watts McCain in Falkner, MS. Dolores worked for 54 + years in education and 49 of those years with the South Panola School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Dolores had many joys in life. She loved her children, grandchildren, traveling, reading, her Church and Church family.
Those left behind to cherish her precious memory include her husband Charles Barnett, Sr. of Batesville; her two sons; Dr. Charlie Barnett and wife Kim of Batesville, and Albert Gene Barnett of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters; Betty Ann Watts of Oxford, Kathy Tidwell and her husband Larry of Batesville; four grandchildren, Jake Barnett, Sara Barnett, Kristin Collier and husband Cole, and Kayla Peeler and her fiancé Chase Douglas.
In lieu of flowers the family ask for memorials in Dolores’ honor to be made to South Panola Foundation for Public Education, P.O. Box 156, Batesville, MS 38606, or First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 104 Panola Ave. Batesville, Miss. 38606.
James Hellums
James Hellums, 86, died May 20, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. He was the husband of Frances Hellums of Pope.
The family will hold a private memorial service. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Jason Lloyd Outlaw
COMO––Jason Lloyd Outlaw, 35, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at UT Medical in Memphis.
Service times were not available at press time. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Outlaw was born Dec. 21, 1979, in Memphis, to Robyn Outlaw of Como and the late Susan Turner.
Reba Shegog
POPE––Reba Shegog, 85, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her residence.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pope Chapel Church. Pastor Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery in Enid. Visitation will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and also from noon – until services on Wednesday at the church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Ms. Shegog, born Aug. 29, 1930, in Pope, to the late G.W. Shegog and Queen Mary Gleaton Shegog, was a retired cook at Batesville Finch Henry Job Corps. She was a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, was a member of A.M.E. Zion Steering Committee, she served as president of the West Tennessee and Mississippi lay-council of Christian Education Department. She served as president of Mid Western Region A.C.E. and also of the Pope PTO Club.
Arley R. Whitsell
BATESVILLE––Arley R. Whitsell, age 77, passed away May 17, 2016 at North Delta Hospice in Southaven.
Private family memorial services were held Saturday. Interment followed services at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Arley was born April 12, 1939 to the late William Bailey Whitsell and Edna Houston Whitsell in Sarah.
During his lifetime he was an accountant and the Deputy Director of Internal Audit for G.A.O. Arley enjoyed hunting, old cars, and loved watching old western movies.
Those left behind to cherish his loving memory include his wife, Wanda Hendrix Whitsell of Batesville and his daughter, Wanda Whitsell Utley of Bealeton, Va.; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
