Judge reduces bond for defendant seeking drug rehabilitation

By Emily Williams
A Batesville man charged with armed robbery was granted a bond reduction during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
D’Undrygus Henderson, 872 Bethlehem Rd., Batesville, was originally in court for a preliminary hearing for two counts of armed robbery, three counts of kidnapping, robbery, petit larceny and five counts of conspiracy to commit a crime. He is charged in connection with a December 29 armed robbery at the apartments behind Skyline Motel.
Henderson was represented by attorney John Perry who told the judge they didn’t want to go forth with a preliminary hearing but they did want to request a bond reduction.
Perry insisted that Henderson was not a flight risk and he called Henderson’s mother as a character witness.
Perry along with Henderson’s mother explained to the judge they were in the process of finding Henderson help due to underlying drug issues.
“His bond has already been reduced from $175,000 to $75,000, but we respectfully ask it be lowered to $35,000,” said Perry.
Judge McKenzie agreed to reduce his bond from $75,000 to $35,000. The case was bound over to the grand jury.
“I hope you get the help you need,” McKenzie said to Henderson.
