The North Delta fast pitch softball team got its 2015 slate under way with three games over the weekend. The Lady Green Wave split a pair of contests Friday in the Magnolia Heights Tournament with a 4-3 loss to Delta Academy before defeating Clarksdale Lee 10-2 in four innings.
North Delta (1-2) returned to the diamond Saturday morning at Bayou where they lost 4-0 to Parklane Academy.
Sarah Johnson fired a no-hitter for the Lady Wave in their victory over Lee in a non-district matchup. The junior right-hander struck out nine while walking six over four innings of work.
Johnson received plenty of run support as the Wave offense scored in every inning while collecting ten hits along the way. Haley Rikard got North Delta on the board with a three run double as part of a four-run first inning.
The Lady Wave tacked on two runs each over the next three innings with Lee scoring their only runs in the third on four walks and an error. Johnson helped her own cause at the plate with a RBI double in the second to drive in Taylor Barton who had reached on a fielders’ choice. Johnson later scored on a two-out error by Rikard to extend North Delta to a 6-0 lead.
After adding two unearned runs in the third, Haley Lamm blasted a two-run home run in the fourth to round out the scoring. Myles Durham registered two singles while Johnson contributed a double and single. Janie Brasell, Barton, Amanda Lamb and Ginger Stephens chipped in with singles.
Brasell, Barton and Johnson scored two runs each while Isabella Morrow scored a run in a courtesy-running role.
North Delta will return to action by hosting their own tournament Friday and Saturday at Green Wave Field. The Lady Wave will take on Magnolia Heights Friday at 6:30 before returning Saturday morning to face West Memphis at 9:00 followed by the Junior Varsity taking the field at 10:30 also against West Memphis.
The final game of the day will pit North Delta against Tri- County at 6 p.m.
