Victim fooled in Green Dot scam

Another scam victim has filed a report with the Batesville Police Department. This scam also involves a Green Dot card.

BPD Lt. John Miller states in his report that the victim received a call Saturday from a person who told her she had won the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.

“However she needed to send money to pay taxes on the prizes,” according to the report. “She was instructed to buy a $50 Green Dot card.”

After purchasing the card at a local store, the victim received another call asking her for the Green Dot card number.

“Since giving the caller the card number, she has received additional calls,” the report continues.
Police urge caution with strangers who call on the telephone for any reason, especially if the caller mentions a Green Dot card. For further information call the Batesville Police Department, 563-5653.
