Sandra Blankely Arnold
SARDIS–– Sandra Blankley Arnold, 79, died on Monday, December 1, 2014 at her home in Sardis.
Services were held Friday in the Wesley Chapel of the United Methodist Church. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Shelby, Miss. on July 30, 1935 to the late Corinne Whitten Blankley and Herrick Joseph Blankley. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church near Sardis, where she was actively involved and managed the church cemetery for over 20 years. She was a former employee of North Panola Schools and the Panola County Circuit Clerk’s Office as a deputy clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Eugene Arnold.
Survivors include: by her daughter, Kim Perkins (Donnie) of Sardis; three sons, Gene Arnold (Mary Jo) of Germantown, Tenn., David Arnold of Sardis and J Arnold (Cassie) of Batesville; two sisters, Rosemary Blankley Stevens (J.F. “Pap”) of Boyle, and JoAnne Blankley Heinsz of Shelby; her sister-in-law, Dixie Blankley of Bolton; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wesley Chapel Cemetery Fund, 209 Court Street, Sardis, Miss. 38666 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, www.stjude.org.
Magnolia B. Avent
COMO–– Magnolia B. Avent, 79, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Services were held Saturday at Ebenezer M.B. Church in Como. Burial was in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.
Avent was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Bernestine Hibbler of Senatobia and Lucida Freeman of Horn Lake; one son, Jeral Avent of Como; two sisters, Ida Lue Carpenter of Memphis and AT Malone of Horn Lake; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
David Lavon Carlisle
CRENSHAW–– David Lavon Carlisle, 54, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
Services were held Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Crenshaw. Rodgers Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include: his wife, Rachel Carlisle; two daughters, Cecily Pompa of Oxford and Autumn Hunter of Crenshaw; two sons, Shone Carlisle of Southaven and William Hunter of Crenshaw; one sister, Denise Crocker of Starkville; three brothers, Phillip Stuart and Terry Stuart, both of Crenshaw and Chris Carlisle of Amory; three grandchildren.
Jessica Lane Chambers
COURTLAND–– Jessica Lane Chambers, 19, died Sunday, December 7, 2014, at The Med in Memphis.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Visitation will be held Friday evening, December 12, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Reverend Eric Greggs and Reverend Larry Kilgore will be officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Chambers, born February 2, 1995, in Clarksdale, to Ben Allen Chambers Sr. of Courtland and Lisa Lynn Daugherty Chambers of Courtland, was a salesperson for Goody’s department store in Batesville.
She was preceded in death her brother, Ben Allen Chambers Jr. and grandparents, Edgar Lee “Buddy” Daugherty and Ross Nolan Boatright, Sr.
Survivors include: her mother, Lisa Lynn Chambers of Courtland; her father, Ben Allen Chambers, Sr. and his wife, Debbie of Courtland; three sisters, Ashley Nichole Chambers of Greenville, Anabelle Grace Chambers of Courtland, and Amanda “A.J.” Prince of El Paso, Texas; three brothers, Christopher Lee Hudson of Courtland, Brandon McClenic and Steven McClenic, both of Batesville; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Boatright; and her paternal grandparents, Willie and Keith Beardain.
Valerie Denise Little
SARDIS–– Valerie Denise Little, 63, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sardis. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Little was born April 20, 1951, in Sardis, to the late Mack Downs and Mildred Kimmons.
She is survived by one daughter, Myesha Little of Sardis.
Jessie C. Morgan
SLEDGE–– Jessie C. Morgan, 78, died December 3, 2014, in Southaven.
Services will be held at noon today at Rose Chapel COGIC in Crenshaw. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Delta Burial Corporation in Marks has charge.
Tonia Smith
OAKLAND–– Tonia Smith, 39, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Massey Grove M.B. Church in Oakland. Visitation will be held today from 5-7pm at Townes Funeral Home, 14342 Hwy 8 West in Grenada and from 10-11am at the church on Wednesday. Townes Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mona Lanell Stroup
MARKS–– Mona Lanell Stroup, 86, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Senatobia.
Services were held Sunday at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery.
Mrs Stroup, born to the late E.V. and Katherine Mitchell, was a retired employee of Crowder Schools and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.
She was preceded in deaty by her husband, Bilbo Stroup and her grandson, Rivers Stroup.
Survivors include: her daughters, Cheryl Stroup of Crowder, Kathy Bailey of Courtland, Wanda Faust of Tupelo, Sandra Cook of Senatobia; sons Cecil Stroup of Walnut, David Stroup of Pope; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Larry Taylor
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHT, Ohio–– Larry Taylor, 65, formerly of Como, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Services will be held today at noon at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis, Burial will be in Mt. Moriah C.M.E. Church Cemetery in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
Taylor worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include: his wife, Carmarita Taylor of Warrensville Height; daughters, Nikeisha Taylor and Nicole Taylor, both of Cleveland, Ohio and Maura Bond of Wauwatosa, Wis.; sons, Leon Connard Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio and Larry Taylor Jr. of Sardis; sisters, Barbara Crowe of Cleveland, Ohio, Gwendolyn Cox of Houston, Texas, Glenndora Dugger and Donna Taylor, both of Como and Carolyn Taylor of Southaven; brothers, Aubrey Taylor, Leon C. Taylor and Mack Taylor Jr., all of Como and Bridge C. Taylor of Holly Springs and six grandchildren.
Mildred Ward
COMO–– Mildred Ward, 53, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hammond Hill M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Como.
Survivors include: her daughter, LaTosha Brassell of Horn Lake; parents, John Henry and Marie Callicutt Ward of Como; sister, Rosie Ward Martin of Senatobia; brothers, John Ward of Horn Lake, Guss Ward of Como, Clifton Ward of Como, Isiah Ward of Horn Lake and two grandchildren.
