Tiger pee wee teams sweep Horn Lake

The Batesville Tiger Peewee football teams closed out their 2014 home slate with a three game sweep of Horn Lake Saturday at Robert H. Dunlap stadium.

Batesville (7&8’s)-26
Horn Lake-13
The Tigers took a commanding 26-0 lead in the third quarter before the visitors added a pair of late touchdowns.

Michael Johnson got the Tigers on the board with the first of his three touchdowns with a 12-yard run. The drive was set up by Triston Flowers fumble recovery at the Horn Lake 40 followed by a Jaydon Ellis 27- yard run.

Batesville took a 19-0 halftime lead on Johnson’s 35-yard scamper with 3:22 left in the half. Johnson closed out the half with a 45-yard interception return as the horn sounded.
 The Tigers extended their advantage to 26-0 as Willie ‘ Spoke’ Butler busted a 72-yard scoring run on the first play of the third quarter with Asyrian Draper adding the one-point conversion.
  Horn Lake avoided the shutout with a 50-yard scoring run late in the third before adding a 80-yard touchdown scamper with 3:56 remaining .

Julius Pope’s 59- yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter proved to be the game winner as the Tigers escaped with a victory.

  After a scoreless first quarter, Horn Lake took a 6-0 lead before Pope busted a 48-yard scamper at the 1:48 mark of the first half. Marquaveion Holmes ran the  conversion to give Batesville a 7-6 halftime lead.

 Markylan Sanford gave the home team a 13-6 lead with a 53-yard jaunt to start the third quarter. Horn Lake closed the margin to 20-13 on a four-yard run with 3:09 remaining in the contest.

Charles Fox broke a scoreless game after three quarters of play with a 19-yard  run at 5:04 left in the fourth quarter followed by Anterio Draper booting the extra point. Horn Lake marched down the field to potentially tie the game but Ilijah Battle stepped in front of a pass and returned it 73 yards to ice the game for Batesville.

 The Tigers travel to Lafayette Saturday before closing out the regular season at New Albany on October 11.
