Judge Bill McKenzie imposed a fine of $209 against Jaylin Webster, 179 Henry Dr., Courtland. Webster had been ticketed after he left the scene of an accident after hitting an 18-wheeler parked behind Copeland’s Jewelry during the festival.

“We were at the fair and people were kicking my car trying to fight,” Webster said in defense.

Officer Clyde Estridge told the judge when officers pulled up no one was fighting but Webster backed his vehicle up and tore up the front part of his car hitting the 18-wheeler trying to leave the scene.

Elton H. Turner, 109 Martinez, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing for felony possession of controlled substance.

Detective George Williford testified that on May 7, officers responded to a call saying “shots fired” on Patton Lane.

Williford said when officers arrived a large crowd disbursed.

Williford said Officer Justin Maples stopped three subjects on Martinez Street.

“Two walked towards him and one went the other way, turning into a foot chase,” he testified.

Williford said when Turner was caught a white powder substance was found in his pocket.

“The field test kit tested it positive for cocaine,” Williford said.

Williford also testified Turner admitted it was cocaine.

When the judge asked Turner if he wanted to testify he said, “They got $950 of my girl’s money. Can we get that money back?”

McKenzie explained there was a procedure and he could file paperwork to get the money back but the officers were going to seize the money because drugs were involved.

Turner also asked if he could have a bond reduction from $5,000.

“MDOC has a hold on you,” the judge said when refusing his request.

“But they could take that hold off,” Turner replied.

His request was denied.
