Amanda Ivy scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning as Mississippi State (32-14; 5-10) won a weekend series from No. 3 ranked Alabama (37-7; 15-3) with a 4-3 victory Sunday in Starkville.
Meri Morgan Fortune doubled and drove in four runs in a East Mississippi 14-7 win over Northeast Thursday. The former South Panola product followed that up with a double and single with three RBI’s as the Lions (25-15; 14-6) downed Mississippi Delta 12-6 Friday in Scooba.
Vicki Johnson belted two home runs including a grand slam as Jackson State (24-24; 13-0) remained undefeated in SWAC Conference play with a weekend sweep of Alcorn State.
Johnson went 4-for-7 in the series with seven runs batted in.
Chris Townsend batted 4-for-11 with two doubles and one RBI as Central Arkansas (18-15; 7-8) dropped a three-game set at Nicholls State.
Chance Whitten registered four hits and drove in three runs in East Central’s 19-3 and 7-5 win over Co-Lin Thursday. Whitten also singled in the Warriors 8-1 loss to Jones Junior College Saturday afternoon.
Jeremy Massie threw five scoreless innings to record the pitching win as Ole Miss downed Memphis 9-1 Tuesday. The senior right-hander from Como picked up his first save of the season with three scoreless innings in relief as the Rebels (29-9; 9-6) routed Mississippi St. 12-2 Sunday in Starkville.
Austin Douglas was named MVP for the offense during the Northwestern State spring game chosen by the media. This is the first time ever for an lineman since the Joe Delaney spring game 25 years ago.
