Della Lindsay did all she could to hold back tears as her grandson, Dashawn Lindsay, signed a National Letter of Intent.
Dashawn, a two-sport letterman at South Panola, signed to play baseball at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead.
“I am going to miss him so much,” Mrs. Lindsay said.
Since Dashawn could participate, Mrs. Lindsay would take him to and pick him up from baseball and football camps around the county.
Even as he has gotten older, he has taken part in numerous camps for both sports in the summer.
Dashawn has received scholarship offers for both sports from all the community colleges in Mississippi. He also received offers for baseball from Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi.
He decided to go with Mississippi Delta because they were offering immediate playing time the first year.
“Ole Miss and Southern said I wouldn’t play that first year,” he said. “I will have better opportunities to play and get my skills up at Mississippi Delta.”
Lindsay said his goal at college is to leave his mark.
“Not just playing sports, but sure, but to let people know I was there and to represent the Lindsay family in a good, positive way.”
Last year, the right fielder had 14 hits, 13 runs, 12 RBIs (runs batted in), five doubles and one triple on 68 at bats, 85 plate appearances for a .191 average. He also had 10 walks, 16 strikeouts, five hit by pitches and four stolen bases.
Lindsay will join former teammates Hays Hardy and Hunter Durham at Mississippi Delta.
