Temple Lebron Allen, 82

BATESVILLE – Cdr. Temple Lebron Allen died Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was 82.

Services were held Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated. Dickins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Allen was born September 30, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late Paul Iras Allen and Dora Owens Allen. He was a retired commander in the United States Navy after serving for 30 years. His deployments included 1950-54 in the Korean War, 1961-74 in  the Vietnam War and 1990-95 in the Persian Gulf War. His was awarded numerous medals during his career including the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award).  Mr. Allen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Hileman.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret Ann Baker Allen of Batesville; one daughter, Temple Crowell (Boyce) of Courtland; three sons, Ritchie (Wanda) Allen and Paul Allen, both of San Diego Calif. and Donald Allen, of Prescott, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Barnes of Chattanooga, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and one-great-grandchild.

Martha Jean Bell, 50

CRENSHAW – Martha Jean Bell, 50, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at Baptist Desoto Hospital. 

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Dundee with burial in Askew Grove Church Cemetery in Longtown.  Pastor Floyd McGlothian will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuaryhas charge.

Bell was born February 6, 1963, to Felix Dukes and Francis Eppenger in Longtown.  She was a member of Rising Sun M.B. Church and a Eastern Star. She was joint in Holy Matrimony to Carlvin Bell, Sr.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Check, Beawilla Hill and Christine Dukes and two brothers, Robert Henderson and C.W. Dukes.

Survivors include Derrick Dukes of Tunica, Stacy White of Crenshaw, Carlvin Bell Jr., Eric Bell and Alandra Bell; four sisters, Geraldine of Senatobia, Alfreda Hanks of Crenshaw, Minni Jefferson of Hernando and Evelyn Farmer of Chicago, Ill.; 10 brothers, Lewis Eppenger, Mack Dukes and Felix Dukes, all of Chicago, Ill., Earnest Dukes, Darryl Dukes, both of Memphis, Tommy Dukes of Horn Lake, Johnny Dukes of Como, Clephis Dukes, Andrew Dukes, Hosea Reniz, all of Longtown and 11 grandchildren.

Earnestine Hunt, 49

COMO – Earnestine Hunt, 49, died Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Askew Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Rodgers Funeral Home.

Survivors include: her mother, Ella Hunt of Como; three sons, Sherman Hunt, Travis Hunt, both of Como and Richard Hunt of Sardis; nine sisters, Gloriastine Hunt and Christine Thomas, both of Como, Lisa Wilbourn, Mary Farancy Cole, Charlesetta Boyd, Faye Allen, Johnnie Mae Boyd, all of Senatobia, Marie Windless of Memphis and Brenda Sullivan of Ripley, Tenn.; seven brothers, Sammy Hunt, Alonzo Hunt, Randy Hunt, Willie Frank Boyd, all of Como, James Curtis Hunt of San Diego, Joe Willie Boyd and Larry Boyd, both of Senatobia and five grandchildren.

Brian Kelly Segars, 46

BATESVILLE – Brian Kelly Segars, 46, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in ICU at Baptist Memorial Hosptial North Miss., Oxford.

Services were held Thursday in Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Howell officiating. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Segars was born to the late Knox and Shirley Bright Segars in Sardis, on October 7, 1946. He was the owner of Segars Trucking Company. Mr. Segars was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his sister, Kim Segars Ostheimer of Germantown, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles “Chuck” Segars and Jason Fowler Segars, both of Batesville; his nieces, Aleia Danielle Segars and Taylor Rae Ostheimer; one nephew, Richard Chase Ostheimer; and step-mother, Patricia Segars of Batesville.
