Taylor Morris rushed for 195 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns as North Delta opened District 1-AA play with a 35-21 victory over Kirk Friday night at Green Wave Field.
Junior quarterback Skyler Lawson added scoring runs of 20 and one yards as North Delta (3-2; 1-0) broke open a 21-21 contest with a pair of touchdowns in the second half.
Austin Hagstrom added 71 yards on 14 totes and one touchdown as the Wave grounded out 322 rushing yards. Lawson finishing the night with 1-of-5 passing for 18 yards and one interception.
Morris gave North Delta an early 7-0 lead with an 82-yard gallop on the second play of the game. The senior tailback later scored on an 18-yard sprint with 2:18 remaining to account for the final touchdown.
Linebackers Parker Jones and Hunter Baker led the North Delta defense with five tackles each as the Wave held Kirk to zero yards rushing in the game. Jones added a quarterback sack while Baker and fellow linebacker Will Magee each picked off a pass.
Sophomore quarterback Gunner Hudspeth tossed three touchdowns of 19, 17 and 11 yards to lead Kirk who fell to 1-1 in district and 2-3 overall.
North Delta hosts Tunica Academy next Friday for homecoming while Kirk travels to Strider.
