LAVERGNE, Tenn. – Frances Irene Davis, 57, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Services will be held today at noon at Boulevard Church of Christ in Memphis. William Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Davis, born Jan. 30, 1955, in Sardis, to James Edward Lee and Irene Herring Buckner, was a retired teacher’s assistant for Memphis. She was a member of Boulevard Church of Christ.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tiffany Davis of Lavergne, Tenn. and Tara Sorrell of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Kadrian A. Davis Jr. of Memphis; her mother, Irene Buckner of Batesville; three brothers, John Herring of Batesville, James Edward Lee Jr. and Charles Edward Lee, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Cynthia Lee and Debra Lee, both of Milwaukee; her father, James Edward Lee Sr. of Milwaukee and step-sister, Linda B. Williams of Sardis and two grandchildren.
BATESVILLE – Mary Ellen “Nanny” Nelson, 82, died Friday, August 10, 2012, at her residence.
Services were held Monday at Independence Presbyterian Church. Dr. Douglas Sullivan-Gonzalez officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Nelson, born August 11, 1929, in Batesville, to the late Henry Ellen Covington and Eunice Christine Waldrup Covington was a member of the Independence Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Independence Homemaker’s Club and worked and managed the Humpty Dumpty Daycare where the children called her “Nanny.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ray Nelson.
Survivors include: two daughters, Martha Judy Nelson Martin of Batesville and Jan Nelson Hannaford of Batesville; one brother, James Covington of Batesville and five grandchildren.

BATESVILLE–Mary Helen Hamilton Nelson died Friday, August 10, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, Oxford, as she neared her 90th birthday.
For 33 years she had been an assistant teacher and discussion leader in the Explorers’ Bible Study of Batesville. It was a labor of love that blessed her spiritually, enriching her life through shared fellowship in the study of God’s Word.
Born in Nashville in 1922, she was the daughter of Lillian Patterson Hamilton and Bernard Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Nelson Jr.; and two brothers, Bernard Gibson Hamilton and David Lamar Hamilton.
Services were Monday, August 13 at the Dickins Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Enid Oak Hill Cemetery. John Howell Jr., Marni McKenzie and Richard “Dick” Hill officiated.
Survivors include her son, John G. Nelson III (Margaret) of Courtland; daughter, Rosemary Howell (John) of New Orleans; grandchildren John Howell Jr. (Jennifer) of Batesville, John G. Nelson IV (Madilynn), also of New Orleans; Mary Catherine Civjan (Jason) of Seattle; David Howell (Charlotte) of Holcomb, Mary Howell Taylor (Phillip) of South Milwaukee, six great grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews.
