Fireworks banned

Crenshaw on Sunday became the third Panola municipality to ban fireworks through July 9.
Crenshaw mayor Oscar Barlow announced the ban on fireworks at mid-afternoon Sunday.

The Panola County Board of Supervisors last week announced a ban on all burning through July 9 due to the hot weather and lack of rainfall that has created substantial risk for fire.

Fire chiefs in Sardis and Crenshaw last week announced that the burn ban adopted by the supervisors also included fireworks in those municipalities. The board of supervisors will meet again Monday in Sardis and may add fireworks to the burn ban throughout the county.
