Ruth Valentine Brazell

BATESVILLE – Ruth Valentine Brazell, 84, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at her residence.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church. Pastor Eugene Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Springhill Asa Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Sunday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville.

Brazell, born Oct. 5, 1927, in Batesville, to the late Curtis Valentine and Tabithann Walls, was a retired cook for Fairfield Living Center. She was a member of West Camp M.B. Church where she was an usher.
Survivors include: one daughter, Angela Brandon of Batesville; three sisters, Alberta Johnson of Palos Hills, Ill., Lois Gray and Catherine Key, both of Chicago; one brother, Melvin Valentine of Chicago; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

William Dandridge Jr.

COMO –  William “Babe Bro.” Dandridge Jr., 66, died  Friday, January 27, 2012, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital, Southaven.

Services will be held Saturday, February 4, at noon at West Gilmore Church of Christ in Senatobia with interment in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dandridge was a member of New Salem M.B. Church of Senatobia and fork lift driver for Freds Company.

Survivors include his wife, Renner Meeks Dandridge; two daughters, Tina M. Askews of Crenshaw and Katina Boyd of Memphis; one son, Sheldon Dandridge of Memphis; four sisters, Lillian Bullard of Nesbit, Ollie Marshall of Memphis, Evelyn Nelson of Coldwater and Wanda Jackson of Senatobia; five brothers, Calvin Dandridge of Memphis, Lozie Dandridge of Sardis, Howard Dandridge, Earnest Dandridge and Andrew Dandridge, all of Como; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jeannie Faye Darby

    BATESVILLE?- Jeannie Faye Lawrence Darby, widow of Daymond Darby, died Friday, January 27, 2012, at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southaven. She was 64.

    Services were held Monday, January 30, at Batesville First Assembly of God Church with burial in Oakhill Cemetery in Enid. Rev. Jerry Hankins officiated. Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Darby was born in Augusta, Ark. on September 12, 1947, to Barney and Pearl Jean Cobb Lawrence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Batesville First Assembly of God Church.

     Survivors include two daughters, Edna Jean Darby Cadena of Courtland and Teresa Lynn Darby Mullins of Grenada; two sons, Donald Darby of Sarah and Timothy Wayne Darby of Sardis; three sisters, Nelda Lawrence Davis, Linda Lawrence Lucas and Tammy Lawrence, all of Forrest City, Ark.; two brothers, George and Barney Lawrence of Forrest City, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Tyrunda Harris Henderson

SARDIS – Mrs. Tyrunda Harris Henderson, 33, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at her residence.    

Services will be held Saturday, February 4, at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel with interment in Shiloh C.M.E. Cemetery in Sardis.  Visitation will be held Friday, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Thedore Stevens will officiate. Cooley’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Henderson was born November 12, 1978, in Sardis to James Clyde Benson and Betty Jean Harris. She was a member of Eastern Star Rock Hill Lodge #14 and member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis. 

She was teacher’s assistant at Como Elementary School and stocker for Vanity Fair.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Henderson of Sardis; her mother, Betty Jean Harris of Sardis; her father, James Clyde Benson of Detroit, Mich.; one step-daughter, Jessica Rena Black of Sardis; one step-son, KaDarious L. Henderson of Crenshaw; three sisters, Demetria Harris Chambers and Kimberly Harris, both of Sardis and Debra Gaines of Crenshaw; one brother, Keedrick Harris of Sardis and one step-grandson.

William “Bill” Z. Reed III

BATESVILLE – William “Bill” Z. Reed, III, 74, widower of  Sue Hastings Reed, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.  

Services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Reed was born August 25, 1937 in Memphis,  to the late William Zenie Reed, II and Vela Louise Flake Reed Pennington. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired maintenance engineer. Following his honorable discharge for the Army, Bill joined the Al Chymia Shiners Unity Lodge # 95 in Memphis, and later joined the V.F.W. post # 4968.

Survivors include his daughter, Susanne Reed Woods of Batesville; one son, William Z. “Bill” Reed IV; three sisters, Pamela L. Bayne of Colorado, Cherri D. Buchs and Vela C. Suta, both of Florida; one brother, Charles Albert “Buddy” Reed of Amhurst, Ohio and six grandchildren.

Cecil Still

BATESVILLE?- Cecil Franklin Still, 84, died Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Tri Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Saturday, January 28, at Wells Funeral Home with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Pat Ludlum and Rev. Todd Pittman officiated. Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Still was born in Panola County, September 20, 1927, to the late Jadie Franklin and Bessie Scruggs Still. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 40 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Batesville.

Survivors include his wife, Robbie Morrow Still of Batesville; one son, Cecil Franklin “Frankie” Still II of Batesville; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, The family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church,119 Panola Avenue, Batesville, Miss. 38606.
