SARDIS – Charles Wyatt “Buddy” Douglas, 85, died Thursday, January 19, 2012, at his residence.
Interment services were held Sunday, January 22, at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville with Rev. Jerry Wages officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Douglas was born August 23, 1926 in Dentville, to the late Wyatt Smith and Nanny Mae Devault Douglas. He was a retired plumber of 42 years and member of the Local Plumbers Union #17 in Memphis.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jean Cobb Douglas of Sardis; one daughter, Jeannie Rochelle Douglas Sevier of Springhill, Tenn.; one sister, Sue Douglas Thompson of Florence, Ala.; one brother, Denon Douglas of Vacaville, Calif. and two grandchildren.

SCHLESWIG, Iowa- Margaret “Becky” Nelson Irvine, 61, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, January 23, 2012, from an auto accident near Denison, Iowa.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Services will also be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the United Methodist Church in Denison.
Nelson, born Sept. 3, 1950, in Batesville, to Elijah and Margaret Schultz Nelson, graduated from South Panola School System in 1968. She attended Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and then received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education from the University of Mississippi in 1972. She was united in marriage to James Irvine on January 4, 1981. She worked as a teacher, librarian and then as a correspondent for the Sioux City Journal.
Survivors include: her husband, Jim and three sons, Brandon, Brennan and Braeden, all of Schleswig.
MEMPHIS – John Edward Loving, 54, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis.
Services were held Saturday, January 21, at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Loving was born September 20, 1957 in Memphis, to the late Ray Reddick Loving, Jr. and Janie Elizabeth Brant Loving. He was a construction worker for Vince Poole Construction and was a member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church in Memphis.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jill Renee Loving.
Survivors include his daughter, Tiffany Denise Loving of Memphis; one son, Jonathan Ray Loving of Memphis; two sisters, Judy Thornburg and Jewel Goss, both of Batesville and two grandchildren, Zachary Mongreon and Dylan Loving both of Sommerville, Tenn.
BATESVILLE – Dolores Stevens Monteith, mother of Kathy Monteith Burns, died Tuesday, January 12, 2012, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. She was 79.
Services were held Saturday, January 21, at Wells Funeral Home with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Jess Chadwick officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Monteith was born April 26, 1932 to the late James Cecil and Virginia Cox Stevens. She was a homemaker and member of Blue Lake Baptist Church in Crowder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Monteith.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Monteith Burns and her husband, J.C.of Madison and a granddaughter, Abby.
The family request that memorials be sent to Blue Lake Baptist Church in Crowder.
BATESVILLE – Rivers Pride Sr., 73, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
Services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Batesville Junior High School. Burial will be in Shiloh M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home with family hour from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Pride, born Aug. 28, 1938. was a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church where he was a deacon. He owned and managed Pride One Stop Auto Shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Savannah Johnson Pride Sr.Survivors include: his wife, Mary Morning Pride; three daughters, Mary Ann (Don) Simmons, Rosetter (Reese) Pickens of Southaven and Erma Jean (Joe) Rayford; three sons, Donald Pride, Rivers (Emily) Pride Jr. and Maurice Milton, all of Batesville; five brothers, Clarence (Jennie Ruth) Pride, Herman Pride, Daniel (Kate) Pride, Robert (Effie Dean) Pride and William (Sarah) Pride Jr.; two sisters, Hester (Eugene) Burnett and Ethel (E.C. Butler, both of Sardis and 15 grandchildren.
BATESVILLE – William “Bill” Z. Reed III, 74, died Wednesday, January, 25, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Reed, born Aug. 25, 1937, in Memphis, to the late William Zenie Reed II and Vela Louise Flake Reed Pennington, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired maintenance engineer. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the Al Chymia Shriners Unity Lodge No. 95 in Memphis then later joined the V.F.W. Post No. 4968 in Batesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hastings Reed.
Survivors include: one daughter, Susanne Reed Woods; one son, William Z. “Bill” Reed IV, of Batesville; three sisters, Pamela L. Bayne of Colorado, Cherri D. Buchs, Vela C. Suta, both of Florida; one brother, Charles Albert “Buddy” Reed of Amhurst, Ohio and six grandchildren
MILWAUKEE – Lonnie B. Sanford, 69, formerly of Batesville, died December 31, 2012.
Services were held January 6, 2012, at Serenity Funeral Home in Milwaukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virginia Holme Sanford and I.V. Sanford.
Survivors include: two brothers, Johnnie V. Sanford and J.W. Sanford, both of St. Louis; three sisters, Earlene Watson of Chicago, Edna Mae Sanford of Courtland and Lorine Sanford of Batesville.
POPE – Patsy Lea Tedford Stanley, 69, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at her residence.
Services were Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson.
Stanley, born Sept. 8, 1942, in Batesville, to the late Abrum and Willie Teazle Williams Tedford, was a retired secretary for Mississippi Data Communications.
Survivors include: two sisters, Betty Jo Pierce and Martha T. Hubbard of Pope and one brother, Toy Abrum Tedford Jr.
OAKLAND – Henry Smith, 77, died Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parrish Grove M.B. Church. Grady McKinney Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Parrish Grove M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Smith, born Jan. 29, 1934, in Oakland, to Ulysee Pry and Maggie L. Ealy, was a member of Parrish Grove M.B. Church where he was an usher. He was a construction worker.
Survivors include: his wife, Janie Lee Smith; four daughters, Sandy Smith Phillips, Lurine Johnson, Lottie Smith Patterson and Nancy Blackburn, all of Oakland; five sons, Henry Smith Jr., Terry Smith and Rodrick Smith, all of Oakland, Jimmy Smith of Coffeeville and Kenneth Smith of Kenosha, Wis.; six sisters, Vera Davis and Rosa Grant, both of Courtland, Johnnie Winters and Nellie Ealy, both of Memphis, Lovie Smith and Ruby Ealy, both of Milwaukee and three brothers, J.D. Ealy, Andrew Ealy and James Smith, all of Oakland.
BATESVILLE- Jeremy D. Wright, 24, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at The Med in Memphis.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Valley Queen M.B. Church in Marks. Burial will be in Booker Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Delta Burial in Marks.
He was the son of Eddie B. Jones and Sandy Wright of Batesville.
Cecil Still age 84, husband of Robbie Still of Batesville MS, died at Tri Lakes Medical Center in Batesville on Thursday 1/26/2012.
Funeral arrangements are currently pending at Wells Funeral Home.
