The Clarion-Ledger released its 33rd annual All-State team on Sunday.

South Panola had five players named to the first team and four to the second team. Five of the nine are juniors.

South Panola head football coach Lance Pogue was named the Coach of the Year in his third year of coaching. He has 42-3 record since coming to South Panola following the 2006 season.

This past weekend he coached the North team in the Bernard Blacckwell All-Star game. The South won 24-17 with Mr. Football 2009 Dylan Favre at the helm.

South Panola running back Domonique Carothers was named the North Most Valuable Player. He had 15 carries for 82 yards and was named to the Clarion-Ledger’s second team offense.

On first team offense was senior running back Nick Parker and junior wide receiver Nickolas Brassell.

On first team defense were senior defensive lineman Devin Clark, junior linebacker Qyendarius Griffin and junior defensive back Kendrick Market.

Second team defense included junior defensive lineman Isaac Gross. In addition to Carothers on second team offense, junior offensive lineman Deshondrick Hines and senior offensive lineman Martez Wallace were chosen.

Region 1-6A

Region 1-6A postseason honors were announced last week.

Twenty-four South Panola players were included in the honors.

Nick Parker was the overall Most Valuable Player (MVP) for 1-6A. Devin Clark was the Defensive MVP for the region.

Making first team offense were Nick Brassell, Domonique Carothers, Martez Wallace and Deshondrick Hines.

Being named to the first team defense were Kendrick Market, Qyendairs Griffin, Al Hentz and Justin Wright.

The South Panola coaching staff was named the coaching staff of the year.

Receiving Honorable Mention honors were Austin Douglas, Kenyahti McMurry, E.J. Jones, Lee Self, Marcus Henry, Hunter Lawrence, Donnell Chapman, Taylor Rotenberry, Isaac Gross, Temario Strong, Dennis Draper, Pierre Conner, Antonio Conner and Nolan Parker.

Region 2-4A

Honors in Region 2-4A were also handed out last Wednesday with some North Panola Cougar names included.

Cortez Hibbler was named the Defensive MVP of the region.

Making second team offense was Ricky Hunt. Named to second team defense were Curtis Arnold and Darius Loveberry.

Honorable Mention were Martez Hooks, Vernon Lewis and Eric Hibbler.
