Green Wave teams split games in West Memphis tournament

Both North Delta varsity girls and boys basketball teams split a pair of games in the West Memphis tournament last week.

The Lady Green Wave eased past Central Baptist, Tenn. 63-31 in the opening round game on Thursday as Bradi Beard led the way with 12 points, 10 tips and six steals.

Lauren Kimzey followed with 10 points, four assists and two steals. Sara Waldrip registered nine points and six boards while Kourtney Norris and Madison Greenlee added six points each.

Linsey Hebert and Jordan Pointer chipped in with five points while Laci DuBravec added four points. Hanna Greenlee contributed with three points and four rebounds. Kaitlyn Still and Hannah Waldrip rounded out scoring with two and one point each. North Delta shot 27-of-65 from the floor for 41 percent.

The North Delta boys followed with an opening season win with a 66-48 victory over Central Baptist. Jim Tom Copeland led the way with 19 points while Chris Brown added 14. Bryan Nickle also scored in double figures with 11 points. Corbin Baker added eight, Ethan Frinke added four, Derek Shawn chipped in with three while Matthew Barefoot, Tres Brasell and Geri Lamm each had two points. Ethan Taylor rounded out scoring with one point.

Both teams then fell to Memphis Home School on Friday as the Lady Green  Wave lost 32-20 while the boys score was not reported.

Kimzey led North Delta (6-4) with five points while Beard and Norris added four points. DuBravec followed with three points while Hanna Greenlee and Sara Waldrip chipped in with two points.

North Delta will open district play next Tuesday at Marshall starting at 3:30. The Green Wave will return home December 7 against Kirk.
