Turnovers plagued the North Delta Junior High football team in the District 1-AA jamboree held Thursday night at Green Wave Field.
In the first of two games played, Marshall Academy scored two touchdowns off of a pair of Green Wave turnovers in route to a 16-0 victory. Indianola downed North Delta 16-6 in the nightcap. Both games consisted of a 20-minute running clock.
Following a North Delta fumble on their first play from scrimmage, Marshall scored on a 23-yard pass from quarterback Aaron McAlexander to J.W. Ray. McAlexander and Ray hooked up again for the two-point conversion to give the Patriots an 8-0 lead with 17:35 left to play.
After both teams exchanged possessions, Marshall scored again as Ray stepped in front of an Alan Larson pass and went untouched into the endzone for a 20-yard interception return. McAlexander ran in the two-point conversion for the final margin of victory. The Green Waves were held to zero yards rushing and five yards total offense as Will Magee had a five-yard reception in the game.
Indianola scored on their first series as Trey Roberson hit a wide-open Andrew Garrett on a 55-yard pass play. Roberson then added the two-point play conversion.
North Delta then answered back with an impressive five-play 70-yard drive capped off by a three-yard touchdown pass from Larson to William Dean with 9:58 remaining to make the score 8-6 after the two-point conversion failed.
Indianola scored the winning touchdown with 4:57 left on a 23-yard scamper by Roberson. The Green Waves had 73 total yards of offense in the game with 45 of that via the ground game. Taylor Morris rushed two times for 45 yards while Will Magee hauled in two catches for 17 yards. Renic Greenlee added reception one eight yards while Dean caught one pass. Larson completed four-of-seven passes for 28 yards.
North Delta will open the regular season Thursday night by hosting Tunica at 6 p.m.
