Vicki Johnson’s two-run single ignited a four-run fourth inning to propel the North Delta Lady Green Wave to a 5-1 victory over Kirk Tuesday afternoon in the District 1 AA opener for both schools.
With the score deadlocked 1-1 in the fourth, Julianna Morrow started the rally with a one-out single. After Mary Jane Morrow struck out, Lauren Kimsey stroked a double past the right fielder to chase home Morrow for the go ahead run.
Hillari Plummer followed with a sharp single up the middle that scored Johnson to give the Green Wave a 3-1 lead. Linsey Hebert kept the inning alive by reaching on an error to put runners on first and third. Then facing a 2-1 count, Johnson smashed a single into left that scored both Plummer and Hebert to add the final margin of victory.
Mary Jane Morrow picked up the pitching victory in the circle as the right-hander scattered seven hits in seven innings of work. Morrow fanned two and did not walk a batter.
North Delta, (8-3; 1-0), took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Johnson reached on single and an error followed by Bradi Beard’s single. Kirk scored their only run in the second inning on a botched rundown between third and home that allowed Hayden Grantham to score.
Johnson’s three singles led the Lady Green Wave at the plate as North Delta pounded out nine hits on the day. Beard followed with a double and a single while Julianna Morrow added a pair of singles.
