The North Mississippi community continues to show its support for Drew Bouchillon, a Magnolia Heights student who was severely injured in a tractor accident.
Bouchillon, 17, remains in critical condition at The Med in Memphis.
At a July 5 blood drive, so many people turned out to support the MHS student that two Lifeblood vans could not accommodate the mass of participants. A second blood drive has been scheduled for Saturday, July 19 at the same location, Guaranty Bank in Senatobia.
A total of 73 units of blood were donated at the weekend blood drive.
A spokesman for the family said a Boston butt fund-raiser raised $75,000 when 1,300 butts were sold at $50 each.
“The family wants to thank the community for its support,” said family member Josh Williams of Senatobia.
Williams described Bouchillon’s condition as “touch and go.”
The Magnolia Heights School Web site continues to be a source of information about Bouchillon, a rising senior at the private school.
Family members are also providing medical updates on the Web site CaringBridge.com. A July 10 update reported that a lung collapsed but was re-inflated, and the young man’s temperature was 101 ºF.
“Drew’s temperature is a concern because it keeps going up and down,” Williams said.
A July 9 posting on CaringBridge reported that family members have read tributes written to Drew on the Web site.
“We love to hear and report the good news and the triumphs,” the latest posting reads, “but Drew still needs your prayers for healing of his lungs, his wounds, and infection.”
The Web site also reported that Bouchillon’s grandmother is receiving chemotherapy while his grandfather is recovering from cancer surgery.
