A’s slam Tigers in 4 innings

By Brad Greer

After dropping a 14-7 verdict to the Yankees a day earlier, the A’s took their frustrations out on the Tigers by the score of 15-1 in four innings Tuesday night in the Batesville city league 13-15 year-old baseball tournament at Americian Legion Park.

Hunter Sullivan and Jamie Jones combined on a no-hitter as the A’s jumped out to a 6-0 lead then put the game out of reach with a six-run third inning.

The Tigers’ only run came in the bottom of the fourth when Gervacus Keys got hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch.

Sullivan pitched the first two innings on the hill, striking out three while walking three. Jones pitched the last two innings, fanning four and hitting a batter.

Jones also did damage at the plate with a double and a triple to go along with three RBIs and two runs scored.

J.W. Willis added a pair of singles and scored two runs. Taylor Rotenberry, Scotty Daugherty and Hayden Scoggins all singled in the victory.

In the first game of the day, the Red Sox downed the Royals 4-2, but later had to forfeit the game for not batting all its players. Rules state that each player must bat one time during a game and play defense at least two innings.
