The North Delta Green Wave varsity boys team have waited two weeks for a win and they got it on Friday night when they hosted the Marvell Eagles in a district game and came out with a 57-32 victory.
Coach Brad Wilson said this game was a huge win for his team.: ”I think that our last victory was about two weeks ago. The team needed this real bad. They have been working real hard for the last two weeks. We have been scrimmaging with the freshmen almost every day. I just kept them playing and playing. The more that you play, the better that you get. It has been paying off for them. They work real hard every day. If we‚re not playing, we’re scrimmaging. Tonight I saw some things come together and I saw some offensive organization that we haven’t had. It finally came and it looked really good. I think that almost everybody on the team scored. The scoring was more spread out than it usually is and I was really happy with the way that they played. They had fun and it was a fun game. They came out and played as a team.
”This game gets us back even at 8-8,” said Wilson. “We are 3-4 in the district right now. We are in fourth place at the moment. If we win at Tunica, we will remain in fourth place. We beat them the first time that we played them. It’s going to be a tough battle though. It’s going to be really hard.”
In the game with Marvell, Taylor Herron and Bateman Greenlee both scored 11 points. John Terry Moore added nine points to help the team. Michael Johnson and Geri Lamm each scored eight points. Hunter West and Keith Crumpler each put up four points. Ryan King added two more points to round off the scoring for the Green Wave team to come out with the victory.
The team traveled to Tunica last night for another district hoops showdown but the results weren’t available at press time.
