Photographic evidence dooms man in Municipal Court case
By Emily Williams

Judge Bill McKenzie found a Grenada man guilty of domestic violence-simple assault based on photographic evidence during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Marketus Brown, 124 W. Days Inn Rd., Grenada, was assigned 10 days on the city’s work release program instead of paying the fines of $355.

Brown said he would work, but would probably pay the rest of the fine.

Officer Clyde Estridge with the Batesville Police Department testified that he responded to a call at 201 Leonard St., at Deborah Polk’s home, when she told him that Brown hit her with his fist and bit her.

Brown had left the scene when Estridge arrived, but Officer Michael Hardin arrested him on Patton Lane shortly after the incident, according to Estridge.

"I was trying to go to work and she came to me and I held my hands up in self-defense, I did not bite her," Brown said calmly.

"Based on the photographic evidence there is proof that domestic violence occurred," said McKenzie.
