F.L. McGhee

BATESVILLE– F.L. McGhee, 74, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

McGhee, born July 17, 1933, to the late Perry McGhee and the late Annie Pearl Hentz, was a retired domestic worker for Edwin Shackeroff. He was also a member of Liberty Hill M.B. Church.

Survivors include: a niece who cared for him, Cecil Mae McGhee of Batesville; two brothers, Cecil McGhee of Batesville and Calvin McGhee of Newton and one sister, Marie Warren of Syracuse, N.Y.


Irene Fowler Porter

COURTLAND– Irene Fowler Porter, 94, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at her residence.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Pope. Rev. Clay Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Porter, born Aug. 23, 1912, to the late John Angelo and Nettie Hyland Fowler, was a homemaker. She was also a member of Eureka United Methodist Church in Courtland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.E. Porter.

Survivors include: one sister, Osie Fay Fowler White of Nacogdoches, Texas; three brothers, Billy Ray Fowler of Conroe, Texas, Douglas Fowler of Courtland and Harry Fowler of Walnut and her caregiver, Virginia Byers.


 Minnie Lee Kimble Suggs

OAKLAND– Minnie Lee Kimble Suggs, 60, died Monday, July 30, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m.  at Mt. Moriah District Association Building in Coffeeville. Pastor Sidney Townes will officiate.  Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Persimmon Hill Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Suggs, born April 11, 1947, in Oakland, to the late Hubert Kimble and the late Fordia Flowers Kimble, was an assembly line worker for Borg Warner in Water Valley and a member of St. Andrew M.B. Church in Oakland.

Survivors include: her husband, Isiah Suggs of Oakland; three god sons, Antonio Kimble, Deronte Suggs and Deontre Suggs, all of Horn Lake; three god daughters, Shavonda Kimble, Luetricia Suggs and Kim Patterson, all of Horn Lake; five sisters, Hubert Jean Kimble, Mary Bradford, Shirley McCollins, all of Oakland, Marie Taylor of Cascilla and Mary Chandler of Hartselle, Ala. and three brothers, L.C. Kimble and H.K. Kimble, both of Oakland and Henry Lee Walls of West Memphis, Ark.


James N. White

SOUTHAVEN– James N. White, 86, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at his residence. He was the brother of Olen White of Pope.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Legge officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

White, born Dec. 29, 1921, to the late Rube Burls and Ethel Lee Harris White in Lafayette, was a retired maintenance employee for the University of Michigan. He also served in the United States Army. He was a member of Enid Lake Baptist Church.

Besides his brother, survivors include: his wife, Ruby Jean White of Southaven; three daughters, Peggy White Bollinger and Jackie White Ross, both of Southaven and Sylvia White Pederson of Olive Branch; one son, James H. White of Horn Lake; one sister, Mary Lee White Champlain of Southaven; brother, Leland D. White of Augusta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
